On April 13th, the students of the 2G journalism class got to try many different kinds of spicy chips! We (three reporters) each brought in 2 different kinds of chips to see which one people like the most.
Allyson brought Dinamitas, which are rolled-up spicy tortilla chips with chili powder and citric acid for a slight sour taste, and Spicy Nacho Doritos, which are very similar to the normal Nacho Cheese Doritos, just slightly more spicy. Diogo brought Takis, which are also rolled tortilla chips with chili powder, and Flamin’ Hot Lays, which are regular potato chips with spicy powder. Sophia brought Turbos, which are chips in a spiral shape with chili powder and lime, along with Hot Cheeto Puffs, light and airy chips with chili pepper and cheese.
Allyson Fernandez Murillo brought Doritos Dinamita chips, which are also called Dynamites among the students, and Spicy Nacho Doritos. Out of the two that she brought, the Dinamita chips were overall more popular among the students. Briana Lopez Munoz, a 10th grader, said, “The chips that I enjoyed the most are the Dinamita chips.” 9th grader, Kendal Metz, said, “I enjoyed the Turbos and the Dynamites because they were just the right amount of spice.” Jasmine Torres, an 11th grader, had a different view of the Dinamita chips. She said, “My least favorite chips were the Dynamites.” Not much was said about the Spicy Nacho Doritos. Brisa Sosa-Puebla, a 9th grader, said, “The Spicy Nacho Doritos were the least spicy of all of the chips.” She also adds, “The spiciest chip for me would be the Turbos or the Dynamites.” Many people love the Dinamita chips, and some don’t. Some people notice how similar the Dinamita chips and the Takis look compared to each other, but they certainly do not taste the same. Lasiya Quinn, a 9th grader, said, “I personally think the Dynamites are better than the Takis because they have a more limey taste to them. Takis are just really spicy.” Kendal Metz said, “I prefer the Dynamites over the Takis.” Briana Lopez Munoz also said the same.
Diogo Ferreira Pereira brought Takis Fuego and Lay’s Flamin’ Hot potato chips. Many people have different opinions on what Diogo brought. While comparing Takis and Dinamita, 9th grader Lesly Velasco said, “I prefer Takis because Dinamita has an overpowering lime flavor, which overpowers the spice.” Another 9th grader, Paola Hernandez, said, “I prefer Dinamita because they are more spicy and less salty.” An 11th grader, Daeden Brown, said, “I did not enjoy either of them.” Makhi, a 9th grader, said, “Takis because they are better than Dinamitas”. This indicates that different individuals in different grade levels hold different opinions. Lesly said, “I would choose Takis because they are classics.” A lot of people had negative opinions on the Lay Flamin Hot chips, Kendal Metz said, “The Lay’s Flamin’ Hot chips were my least favorite because they didn’t have that much flavor.” Emilia Rivera Castro said, “The Lay’s Flamin Hot chips were my least favorite, those chips do not have enough spicy.” Malakai a 10th grader said, “My least favorite chips out of all the choices were Lay’s Flamin’ Hot chips.” Lasiya Quinn, a 9th grader said, “The Lay’s Flamin Hot chips were my least favorite because they were the least spiciest and they were more salty than spicy”. Makhi said, “The Lay’s Flamin’ Hot chips were really not that good.” It seems like Lay’s Flamin’ Hot chips were the least liked chip because of the spicy flavor, which the chips do not have.
Sophia Michelle Alas Morataya brought Hot Cheeto Puffs, which were a popular favorite out of the two that Sophia brought. When asked which chip Lesly Velasco enjoyed the most, she responded with, “The Hot Cheeto Puffs because they feel easy and fluffy to eat. I would recommend everyone to try Hot Cheeto Puffs because they have a different consistency than the others.” Daeden Brown responded with “Hot Cheeto Puffs, mainly because I like that they are softer rather than crunchy.” She was also asked if she could choose a chip to eat for the rest of his life, which one it would be, “As I said before, it would be the Hot Cheeto Puffs because they are my favorite.” The Hot Cheeto Puffs have been described as soft and fluffy chips by many and have been a top pick because of their consistency. “The chips that I enjoyed the most were the Hot Cheeto Puffs,” shares Jasmine Torres. Emilia Rivera Castro also says, “The one that I enjoyed the most was the Hot Cheeto Puffs. I like those because they have a good amount of spice.” Lasiya Quinn also really liked the Hot Cheeto Puffs, “I enjoyed the Hot Cheeto Puffs the most because they have more flavor and it’s not too spicy, it just has a little kick. If I could only eat one chip for the rest of my life, then it would be the Hot Cheeto Puffs because I feel like if you eat chips that are too spicy, then you would get really sick.”
Some people don’t eat spicy chips too often, while others eat them almost every day. Daeden Brown said, “I don’t eat them as often because they aren’t good for you. I probably eat them every few months.” Briana Lopez Munoz said, “I eat spicy chips pretty often.” Kendal Metz said, “I don’t usually eat spicy chips a lot because my mom thinks it is bad for me.” “I eat spicy chips whenever I get the chance to go to the store,” said Jasmine Torres. Malakai said, “I often eat spicy chips.” Gabriella Dominguez Reyes said, “I eat spicy chips like every week because they are so good.” Jose H. said, “I don’t know, I eat them sometimes.” Makhi said, “I eat them pretty often.” Overall, some people choose to eat spicy chips really often since the taste is so good. Other people choose to stay away from spicy chips because either their parents won’t let them, saying that eating spicy chips is not good for their health, or they just can’t handle the spice.
The occasion when different people eat spicy chips can depend on it, Jasmine Torres said, “I eat spicy chips when I’m at the movies or when I’m just in my room.” Malakai said, “I mostly eat spicy chips when I’m at the movies.” Briana Lopez Munoz said, “I eat spicy chips when I’m watching a YouTube video, a show, or a movie.” Deaden Brown said, “I eat chips more than candy, so anytime I’m at the movies or with my friends, I’ll grab a bag of chips.” It sounds like the movies or watching a movie is the best place to eat different spicy chips.
Allyson Fernandez Murillo’s personal opinions- I tried each of the spicy chips we brought in, and honestly, I liked all of them. My favorites were the Dinamitas because of the spicy, limey taste. I also liked the Hot Cheetos Puffs since they aren’t too spicy, and it feels like it just melts in your mouth when you eat them. The Spicy Nacho Doritos tasted really good as well, but they weren’t really spicy. They tasted like the normal Nacho Doritos, but I occasionally could feel the spice. I have never eaten Turbos before, and they were good. I liked the amount of spice they had, and the shape of the chips was unique. The Takis Fuegos were also good, but I’m used to the taste already, so I like some of the other chips more. My least favorite of them all was the Flamin’ Hot Lays. I liked them, but they weren’t as good as some of the others. They tasted a bit like Barbecue chips with a tiny bit of spice.
Diogo Ferreira Pereira’s personal opinion- I tried all of the different chips that Allyson, Sophia, and I brought. The chip that I personally enjoyed the most was the Flamin’ Hot Cheeto puffs because of the crunch that the chip offers, and the spicy flavor is just right. My 2nd favorite chip that we tried was the Dinamitas because of their citrus heat and tangy spice. My 3rd favorite chip that we tried was the Takis because of its crunch. The chip that I least enjoyed was the Spicy Nacho Doritos because of the lackluster spice and the sharp, cheesy flavor that I did not enjoy.
Sophia Michelle Alas Morataya’s personal opinions- I tried all of the spicy chips our group brought, and I will be ranking them from my least favorite to my most favorite. For my least favorites, it would probably be the Spicy Nacho Doritos and the Flamin’ Hot flavored Lays. They were both very good, but compared to the other chips, they were not very spicy, and I preferred the spicier chips. Then I really liked the Dinamitas and Turbos a lot, they were spicy and overall great in flavor, but I still preferred the Takis and Hot Cheeto Puffs. The Takis and Hot Cheeto Puffs were my favorite chips because the Takis are very spicy and full of spicy powder, and the Hot Cheeto Puffs are very soft, and I really like the texture of the chips. I would definitely recommend the Takis and Hot Cheeto Puffs to people because they are full of flavor and were my favorite ones to try.
Have you tried any of the chips mentioned? In your opinion, what is the most popular chip that was mentioned? Would you recommend the chips that were mentioned to anyone? Are there any other spicy chips that you enjoy but we didn’t mention? What’s the spiciest chip in your opinion that we mention? How often do you eat spicy chips?

The spiciest chip in my opinion is the one chip challenge chip because of how spicy it is! I don’t eat spicy foods that often though I am comfortable eating them.

I eat spicy chips often and honestly, Turbos are the best. Their shape is so fun and they are so good. The spice is not too bad and definitely tolerable in my opinion!

In my opinion, nothing beats Takis. They are classic and I will always grab some if I am looking for a spicy snack. I think that they are very popular for a reason.

I think I like Hot Cheetos or Lays the most because their flavor is the best to me. I don’t like the Cheetos Puffs, though.

I really like turbos because they have a taste of lemon and I like the shape of them a lot.

I like the structure of this article and each quote. I stay with my opinion in that I love the hot Cheeto puffs as they have the best texture and spice.

I really love Dinamitas because of the lime flavor. I like Takis, but they don’t have much flavor to me, and I like hot cheetos, but not the puffs. I don’t know the spiciest chip I’ve tried.

my favorite chips has to be kettle takis and dinamitas I really like there spicy flavor that they have . I also really like the regular takis but they taste less and are not that much spicy as dinamitas . the only spiciest chip I’ve tried was back in the 6th grade when me and my friends tried the one chip challenge , it was very spicyy

My favorite type of spicy chip is Hot Cheetos. In my opinion, I do like Takis, but they can be too strong sometimes. I also like Doritos Dinamitas, which are me and my friends’ go-to snack when we go to Giant after school. They’re spicy, but it isn’t too much to the point where I need water. The worst spicy chip I’ve ever tried would definitely be the one chip challenge in 7th grade. It burned.

I personally like Takis and Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. I’ve never had Takis and Dynamites side by side and I think this taste test was a great idea. I’m kind of disappointed by the review of the Lay’s Flamin’ Hot potato chips because I thought they would rank higher.

I don’t usually eat spicy chips that much but when I do I usually go for Takis or dynamites. I liked seeing everyone’s different opinions on these chips!

Great review! Personally, I’m with Kendal on the Turbos. They have the perfect crunch and spice level.
