The battle for the best breakfast spot on Liberia Avenue just got a lot more exciting. First Watch, a popular restaurant chain known for its fresh, chef-driven breakfast and lunch options, has officially opened its doors in Manassas, Virginia. To see if this new location could live up to all the hype in the community, I decided to brave the busy Sunday morning rush and review the experience myself.
Arriving at 10:30 AM during peak brunch hours, my immediate reaction was a mix of surprise and worry. The lobby was completely packed with hungry people, forcing several groups to wait outside on the sidewalk. Because First Watch does not take traditional reservations, the host told me I would have to wait 45 minutes for a table. Luckily, the restaurant has a modern digital wait-list system through their app. Instead of making the rookie mistake of waiting on the sidewalk, smart customers can log into the app from home and virtually get in line before they even start their car.
Once my phone buzzed and the host walked me into the dining room, I noticed how beautiful and clean the space looked. Massive glass windows let in a ton of natural light, and the warm wood accents on the wall give the room a trendy, welcoming feel. However, you should not come here if you want a quiet, private conversation. Between the loud, upbeat background music and the chatter of a full house, the noise level is very high. To fit as many people as possible, the tables are packed close together, which makes the seating feel a bit cramped.
Fortunately, the heavy crowd did not slow down the excellent service. My server greeted me with a big smile within minutes of me sitting down, took my order quickly, and checked back often. Throughout the entire meal, the staff remained very attentive and kept my coffee mug full without ever making me feel rushed to leave.
First Watch operates on a unique daytime schedule, opening daily from 7:00 AM to 2:30 PM with absolutely no dinner service. Instead, they offer their entire menu all day long. This means you can order a lunch sandwich at sunrise, or a big plate of eggs and pancakes right before closing time in the afternoon.
The quality of the food explains why local residents are willing to stand outside for nearly an hour. The absolute favorite item in the menu of the Million Dollar Bacon, which costs six dollars. You get four generous slices of hardwood-smoked bacon baked with brown sugar, black pepper, and cayenne pepper, finished with a drizzle of maple syrup. The result is a perfect balance of sweet and spicy flavors that make it a must-have appetizer for the table to share.
For my main course, I tried a few different items to see how the kitchen handles both sweet and savory dishes. I absolutely loved the Chickichanga, priced at 13 dollars. it is a massive breakfast chimichanga packed with eggs, spicy chicken breast, chorizo and onions inside a flour tortilla. The texture was perfect because it was fried until crispy, and the delicious Vera Cruz sauce on top added a wonderful, savory kick. For those who prefer a sweet breakfast, the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes are incredibly light and airy because the kitchen whips ricotta cheese directly into the batter. I found these giant pancakes to be a refreshing change because they are not overly sugary like standard diner food, especially with the tart lemon curd and fresh berries on top. If you want something lighter, I highly recommend the Avocado Toast. It features thick-cut whole-grain artisan toast topped with fresh, chunky smashed avocado and two cage-free eggs, and I was impressed by how fresh and high-quality every bit tasted.
To wash everything down, I ordered from their fresh juice bar, where drinks cost six dollars, and I was genuinely surprised by how delicious they were. The Kale Tonic is a bright green blend of kale, Fuji apple, English cucumber, and lemon. It is their top seller, and I totally agree with the crowd because the apple adds enough natural sweetness that the juice never tasted like grass to me. I also tried the Purple Haze juice, which was a visually stunning drink made with wildberry, lemon, cane sugar, and butterfly pea flower tea that tasted just as vibrant as it looked. Since First Watch changes its menu with the seasons, I also got to try a 2026 spring special called The B.E.C. This premium bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on sourdough bread with pickled peppers and arugula was incredible, and the spicy pickled peppers gave it a unique flavor that you can not find at a normal fast-food drive-thru.
With main entrees costing around 13 dollars and fresh juices prices at six dollars, a full breakfast with a drink will cost about 20 dollars per person before leaving a tip. Given the high-quality ingredients, large portion sizes, and great flavors, the price is very fair. First Watch is a high-energy, delicious addition to the Manassas food scene. It might be a little loud and cramped, but the Million Dollar Bacon alone makes the wait well worth it.
