Have you ever come across an ice cream shop that feels totally new and different from the usual places? Or maybe you want to try something unique instead of the same old flavors? If so, I want to tell you about an ice cream shop that’s very local and honestly pretty special. It’s called Paletería y Nevería 3 Marías, and it’s located at 8552 Mathis Ave, Manassas Park, VA 20111. The shop has been open for about three years now, and it’s the first and only location owned by a Mexican family. That already makes it stand out, because you can tell they put a lot of love into it. Even before you try anything, you can feel how much effort they put into creating a place that shows their culture and treats customers well. If you’re someone who likes finding hidden spots, this is definitely one you should check out.
My personal experience walking into their shop was honestly really good. When you first step inside, the place looks modern, but it still has that strong Mexican vibe that makes it feel warm and welcoming. The colors are bright, the decorations are fun, and everything looks super clean and organized. They open at 11 AM every day and close at 9 PM, which makes it easy to go after school or on the weekend. One thing I really liked is how many choices they have. They don’t just have regular ice cream — they have lots of unique flavors and handmade ice cream bars that you don’t normally see. They also serve different Mexican snacks that you wouldn’t find in a normal ice cream shop, like spicy chips with toppings, elotes, and other savory treats. It makes the place feel like more than just a dessert shop. It feels like a little taste of Mexico.
My favorite thing to order there is the dulce de leche and coconut ice cream combo because the flavors taste so good together. Another thing I really enjoy are their frappes and malteadas. They’re kind of like milkshakes, but thicker and creamier, and you get to pick whatever ice cream flavors you want in them. You can also add toppings like whipped cream, cookies, or sprinkles, which makes it even better. Some flavors that I think are super interesting are Ferrero Rocher, which has real chocolate pieces in it, and Cookie Monster, which is bright blue and has bits of Chips Ahoy and Oreo cookies mixed in. They have so many fun options that it’s actually hard to choose, so most people end up wanting to try something new every time they go.
Some of the most popular ones are the coconut, mango, and strawberry and cream flavors. They also have ice cream, and a lot of people really like the pistachio and cookies-and-cream scoops. It’s the kind of place where you want to try everything, even if you can only pick one. What makes the shop cool is that everything tastes homemade, and the workers are really friendly. A lot of families come in, so it feels lively but not too loud. If you go on a hot day or even on cold days, it’s the perfect spot to eat sweet desserts and savory snacks. The prices are pretty good too, so you don’t feel like you’re spending too much. Overall, 3 Marías is a great hangout spot for anyone who loves desserts.

The Malteadas sound interesting, if they’re akin to milkshakes. I will consider giving it a try!
