At Osbourn High School, the Jesus Club is a welcoming space for students to explore their faith, make friends, and support one another. With a variety of activities and a focus on building community, the club has become an important part of many students’ lives.
One of the main activities in the Jesus Club is preparing a message each week, as Mr. Elias NeJame explains: “We have some student leaders who prepare a message once a week. We also do a game day, play different games, but we pray, we study the Bible, we do all kinds of things and also just create a supportive environment for students who are Christian or who are interested in faith.” This blend of fun and spiritual growth helps foster a sense of belonging among members.
To encourage more students to join, club members have come up with creative ways to spread the word. Karla Valeria Corrales shared her approach: “I would just invite them by planning to do donut days during lunch, telling them about Jesus and saying Jesus loves them. Whatever they’re going through is temporary!” These inviting gestures not only promote the club, but also share an uplifting message that resonates with many students facing challenges.
Being part of the Jesus Club has a significant impact on personal growth and faith development. Janet Martinez Ventura expressed how the club helps her: “The club helps me grow in my faith because it gives me the time to reflect on his greatness in my life and how all the miracles he has done in my life. It also gives me motivation to continue walking in God’s pathway and to not give up even though school comes with a lot of stress.” For Janet, the club is a refuge from daily pressures, allowing her to reconnect with her beliefs and find strength in her faith.
For some students, personal connections drive their desire to join the club. Brianna Melissa Hernandez explained her inspiration: “Okay so what inspired me to join the Jesus Club is, mostly cause my friend is one of the leaders of the club, and she would tell me what they would do, and I would be like oh I wanna do that too.” She highlights the importance of friendship and community in her faith journey, noting that the club makes her feel less alone: “Joining the club inspired me too because like people in the club do not make you feel alone.” This sense of companionship is crucial for many students, especially during challenging times.
Carlos Martinez shared his hopes for personal growth through the club: “I hope to become a better person by going to this club and learning about Jesus and the Bible because as a person you know that everyone, including myself, is emotionally immature.” His desire to become a better person reflects the overall mission of the Jesus Club, which encourages students to grow in their faith and support one another. Carlos emphasizes that seeking revenge is not the answer, and through the club, he is working towards a closer relationship with God: “This also means I’m trying to get closer to the Father because I probably deserved all of that because of how far I was away from him.”
The Jesus Club at Osbourn High School is more than just a gathering; it’s a community of support, friendship, and spiritual growth. By participating in activities, encouraging others, and sharing personal experiences, members are helping each other navigate their faith journeys. Whether through weekly messages, fun activities, or heartfelt discussions, the Jesus Club is making a meaningful impact on students’ lives, providing a place where they can feel valued and supported in their walk with God.

My family for the most part all believe in Christianity with some taking it to different measures. I too am christian and I think this club will be successful.

I am from a very strictly Christian family. I really like that their a Jesus club cause that means many people who don’t believe can dive in and find out more about Christianity and that would be lovely.

Im catholic but I’m glad that there is a club where you can find kids who have the same kind of love and passion for God.

I really like how you gave an explanation after each quote, they really gave me a better understanding on what the quotes were saying.

I am not Christian, just like my name. But I am Catholic and I praise to this club that it attracts more people and help them believe more in God.

This is a very descriptive article. I had Mr. Nejame last year, he’s an amazing teacher. He’s so caring and charismatic, I’m sure the club is full of warmth and connection. I’m so happy Christians have a place to worship within our community.

I personally am not very religious unfortunately. Although, I love to see people have faith in something they believe in and it warms my heart. Reading this article makes me feel that and it’s sweet. On top of that the article itself was really well made! Good job Cami.

I love your article, it is my favorite yet. I love how you spoke to Mr.NeJame about what things you do in the club and other students about how it influences them. I’ve actually been in the same room where the club was but I was just there to catch up on my English work. Now that I have been in the room where the club is, I wished I would have joined it sooner to get closer to Jesus. Jesus loves every single one of you.

You can still come and join us at the club! We’d be very happy for you to come and get closer to God! You’re welcomed any time, we always have our meetings on Wednesdays from 3:20 to 4:20! It’s never too late to get closer to God :).

I am from a very Catholic family and I would like to join the club, but I’m not a big social person and I don’t know if I would have a ride and whatnot. But, it seems like a fun club to join if you are trying to express yourself more.

Yess! The club doesn’t make you feel left out and it’s okay if you aren’t that type of person to be social with everyone else! I’m like that too, I don’t really speak to anyone but you’re always welcomed to come by! Our leaders are very welcoming and sweet :)! We meet once a week on Wednesdays from 3:20 to 4:20 and there’s also buses by then if you don’t have a ride!
