Wednesday, November 5th, marked the start of Osbourn’s new schoolwide student ID badging. When outside adults enter our school building, they are required to provide their state-issued ID, which is printed for the adult to wear while they’re in the school for whatever reason they may have. Teachers and administrators within the school are similarly required to wear their MCPS issued ID. Every student in Osbourn High School is now required to wear a lanyard while on school grounds that contains an identification pouch that displays the student’s school-issued ID card.
On the back of a student’s ID card, students will have two color-coded stickers that will represent their assigned lunch date. The top left corner sticker will represent their Blue day lunch and their top right sticker will represent their Gray day lunch.
For the first lunch wave, students received a red sticker, a blue for second lunch, a yellow for third lunch, a green for fourth lunch, and if a student has an off-campus waiver, they received a black sticker for the respective day. If a student has not received their student ID card or has lost their original, they can fill out a form in Schoology to request another ID card.
What if I leave my lanyard at home?
In the event of a student leaving their lanyard at home, they will be provided with a sticker to wear throughout the day.
Do I need to wear my lanyard?
Yes, all students are required to wear their lanyards during the school day. Dr. Chapman has stated that lanyards are being implemented here at Osbourn to improve student safety. “Many times we have had students who don’t belong in this school,” said Mr. Lopez. “The lanyards will help us identify Osbourn students.”
This is a developing story. We will be adding updates throughout the month.

I think that this article can be very useful for those that are confused about some things with the lanyards. Although I don’t really like the new rule, I can see how it might be about to keep everyone safe.

I’m not a big fan of the lanyard rule, but I do understand the reasons why it was implemented. I just feel like if you do what you’re supposed to then the lanyards shouldn’t be a problem to you. Plus, we might as well get used to it now because you are going to be required to wear a lanyard when you get a job.

I don’t really like the new lanyard rule. It feels a bit strict and can be annoying if you forget it at home. I understand it’s meant for safety, but I think there could be easier ways to check IDs without making students wear them all day.
