For most juniors and seniors, when the school year is coming to an end, they look forward to big events like Prom. Prom is a night full of memories, pretty dresses, and fun music.
Prom usually begins with students spending their afternoon getting ready, doing their hair, doing makeup, and putting on their outfit. “I’m going for a soft glam look for my makeup, that is not too harsh, but more of a subtle look,” said Karen Gonzales. With the theme being Enchanted Forest for Osbourn’s Prom, many students have a good idea of what dress colors and styles they want. “My dress is a purple corset-style dress, and my shoes are lace-up silver with butterflies on them,” said Aniyah Slaughter-Diaz. While she is going for a purple look, Celine Sakatan is going for ‘an emerald green dress’. Maya Lucero’s dress is ‘white and pink with sparkles and flowers.’
With many exciting looks for Prom, there are also friends who come with the experience of Prom. Some students go with a partner, friend group, a close friend, or even alone. “I am planning on going with my friend group, because we all went to hoco together and it was a very fun experience,” said Lucero. While some students go to prom with their big friend groups, others go with a boyfriend or girlfriend to create a special high school experience. “I plan on going with my boyfriend Ethan when he asks me out,” says Naomi Lopez.
Once students have taken their time getting ready for Prom, they usually go out to eat dinner to celebrate with friends or enjoy a special meal and experience before the Prom. While some go to fancy restaurants, others go to have a simple dinner. “My friend group and I are going to the Harbour Grille for dinner,” said Lucero. Though many students go out before Prom to eat, others go after Prom. “I’m going out to eat after prom at a 24/7 IHOP,” said Slaughter-Diaz.
If you’re wondering how to make your prom entrance unforgettable, the secret isn’t just who you arrive with, but how you arrive. Many students come in their own cars and others also rent limos or party buses, so they can share a ride with friends or their date to prom. “I will be car pooling with my friends,” said Nicole Brotherton.
Prom dinners and different types of transportation are big traditions, but after talking about where they’ll eat and discussing other things about Prom, students may have thoughts on the price of Prom tickets. Some people felt the prices were reasonable, while others thought they were high. “The pricing for prom tickets is reasonable for me personally because I know the effort it takes to be able to host a huge event,” said Slaughter-Diaz.
On the other hand, other students have different feelings about the pricing. “They’re too much, because some people don’t have jobs and others who do are wasting their money that they probably need for food, or to help pay bills,” said Naomi Lopez. While being on the topic of discussing all things about Prom, these were some thoughts students had about the theme that was chosen. “I think that the theme is very whimsical,” said Lucero. “The theme is something different, but the color scheme for Enchanted Forest isn’t a very diverse color palette,” said Slaughter-Diaz.
Though there are many mixed opinions about pricing and the theme chosen, planning a big event like Prom comes with some details. Details like the main budget the school has for prom, which is “$10,000-12,000,” according to Mr. Whitley. Osbourn students got to pick what music the DJ will play and what the theme would be for Prom. “They have the opportunity to request music. They voted on the prom theme,” said Whitley. A big part of before prom is setting up for it. “Prom volunteers are taken from Leadership classes. They will set up in the morning and will work at Prom that night. These volunteers are freshmen and sophomores,” said Whitley.
Have you purchased your ticket for Prom? If you are going, what are you looking forward to?

I didn’t go to Prom, but I’ll definitely be going next year. I do usually enjoy Homecoming, though. It may be overpriced slightly, but memories are usually more important than money in my opinion.

I didn’t buy a ticket because I don’t really like big events.

I didn’t get tickets for prom because I don’t like to go to events like these.

This article is really good because it describes all the pretty dresses and the Enchanted Forest theme It’s also nice to see how much work goes into planning a big dance and that students actually got to help pick the music and the theme themselves.

I really liked this article because the “Enchanted Forest” theme sounds super cool, and even though I haven’t been to a prom yet since I’m a freshman, I’ve always wanted to dress up and go to a fancy dinner with my friends. Since I’m an underclassman, I haven’t bought a ticket, but I’m definitely looking forward to seeing everyone’s pictures on Instagram!

I think it sounds like so much fun to go to a big dance! It is like a fairy tale when everyone wears pretty dresses and spends time with their best friends. I hope everyone has a wonderful time dancing and making happy memories.
