A division-wide Special Olympics Spirit Fest was held in Osbourn’s stadium on April 24 from 10-12. Most schools in the division participated in this spring event.
A wide variety of student organizations and teams helped make the day special.
-OHS cheerleaders were present to welcome athletes as they entered the field.
-Ms. Glomb’s choir sang the National Anthem as part of the opening ceremonies.
-Eagle Buddy Club students were present to help each school in attendance.
-Unified P.E. Students participated as buddies for OHS athletes.
– Mascots were present from every school participating, and they followed the torch into the ceremony.
-Volunteers from Central Office helped to run some of the stations.
-Micron sent 7 volunteers to help participate in running stations.
“The Special Olympics mission states, ‘Special Olympics strives to create a better world by fostering the acceptance and inclusion of all people.’
This is an exciting opportunity to foster friendships and make memories for all who attend. The event is intended to foster friendships through sports!” said Ms. Shannon Helton, one of the organizers of this event and a teacher at Osbourn.
The student volunteers were just as enthusiastic about the event as the participants.
“I am very proud to be helping out today. I love the event and all of the people I am working with. I think these kinds of events should happen more often because they bring joy and heart-warming moments to everyone involved,” said OHS junior Isabell Calvillo.
“I feel very proud of all of these kids. I will miss them all a lot, but they bring so much unity and happiness to Osbourn. This event also brings unity to our community by bringing schools throughout the division together and creating this huge celebration,” said OHS senior Janisha Minas.

This was such a happy story to read! It is so nice that all the schools came together at the stadium to make sure everyone felt included. I loved hearing about the mascots following the torch and the choir singing the song at the start.
