Everyone has their own dream career for their own reasons. Some people want to be a firefighter, a doctor, a nurse, or even a hairdresser. There are so many different jobs out there to choose from. Some careers require you to go to college for four years or more, while others require you to go to a trade school to learn a specific skill. It really just depends on what you are interested in and what kind of lifestyle you want to have when you get older.
“I want to do cosmetology,” said Suly Ramirez. Wanting to do cosmetology has definitely been a pretty popular choice among teenage girls who love anything that has to do with beauty. All these cool hair and makeup trends have been going around social media like TikTok and Instagram, and they’re influencing a whole lot of girls to want to start their own careers in the beauty category. It’s not only about being able to do hair or paint nails, but it’s about being creative and helping others feel confident. Plus, there are so many different paths in cosmetology, such as lash tech, nail tech, hair stylist, dermatologist, etc. “I like dying my own hair a lot, and I would like to dye other people’s hair. I’m also planning on taking Cosmetology during my last two years here in Osbourn.”
Other people want to work in the medical field because they like helping people who are sick or hurt. “I want to be a NICU nurse,” said junior Karen Gonzalez. “I’m planning on taking CNA to learn more about the career.” Being a NICU nurse means taking care of tiny babies, which is a really important job. It takes a lot of patience and kindness. Then there are people who want to save people. “I want to be a paramedic,” Camila Romero Hernandez said. “I’m planning to take EMT during my senior year.” Paramedics are the first ones on the scene, so they are critical in an emergency situation.
”I want to go to MSU to be a nurse and do cosmetology, but right now I do hair, and it’s going good. But I really want to become a nurse, I think it will be really fun, and I think it will help me a lot in life,” said LaMyah Rice.”Â
Then there are the people who want to work with criminals and solve mysteries. This is a really cool field because you get to be like a detective, but use science to find the truth. “My dream career is Forensic Science,” Nevaeh Ball said. “I’ve always been interested in true crime and bringing victims justice. I wish to be in the digital evidence branch, which analyzes data from computers or phones,” she added. A lot of people get into this because of shows they see on TV or documentaries, but it’s actually a lot of hard work and studying. The best part is that she is already getting ahead by taking classes that show her what the job is really like. “Yes! I’m taking Forensic Science, which is taught by Mr. Smith, and Criminal Justice, taught by Mr. Jordan. These classes have taught me so much about the career I want for my future. It’s amazing that Osbourn High School offers these because they can really help out later on,” said Ball.
Then there are other kids who don’t really want to be in an office all day and would rather be outside and working with their hands. “I want to go into construction,” said Faith Webb. It’s a much-needed career because you actually get to build things that people use every day, like houses or stores. Some people just sign up for a random class just to see how it would be, and then they end up liking the career more than they thought they would. It’s a good reminder that you don’t always have to go to college or university to get a good job. Faith Webb actually found out they liked it just by giving it a try. “I took an intro to construction class this year and really liked it.”
Some people know what their future will look like, but some people know what they want to do and just don’t know how to start. And there are some adults that are still working on the job or the path that they wanted for themself. Not everyone’s plan works out; that’s why some people have a plan B. Â
It is never too early for high school students to start thinking about their future goals. ”Right now I work with my dad, but when I get out of school, I want to keep working for my dad, but I also want to be a professional soccer player,” said Walter Yanes Bonilla, who is in 9th grade.  “I do have a plan B. I will just keep working with my dad. I have high hopes that I will be a professional soccer player, but if it doesn’t work out, then I will be working for my dad.”Â
“I didn’t have like a dream job in high school because I didn’t have someone to lead me on how to have a dream or anything. I was doing things that I was not supposed to be doing, and I dropped out of high school. But I would say I didn’t see myself in this position, but that’s why I push kids to do the right things, because I don’t want to see any kid go through what I had to go through growing up. And I know y’all kids really do have a good future! That’s why I give y’all advice, but I didn’t think I would have this job right now,” said Mr.Williams, who works security at OHS.

Great article, La Siya and Brii It’s really inspiring to see how many OHS students are already test driving their futures through these classes.

I don’t have a plan right now, but I’m trying to figure out what interests me by taking classes that sound fun or challenging. I want to take Yearbook in the future because graphic design fascinates me. I’m currently in theatre because I love performing.

I went solely with DE classes because I cannot stress about another AP exam next year. I am also doing another year of many classes, like Journalism and Theatre.
