The crowd cheers, and cleats hit the field as the boys junior varsity and varsity soccer seasons have begun! Osbourn High School’s boys soccer have kicked off their new season with excitement and joy. From late-night practices to intense games, the boys soccer team is preparing for a season full of teamwork, competition, and high expectations.
As the season begins, many soccer players have things they are looking forward to accomplishing in this new season. Varsity senior Elvis Santiago Cifuentes Reyes shared what he’s most looking forward to accomplishing for his last season here at OHS. “I’m hoping we go undefeated, go to regionals, and hopefully make states and win.” Along with Elvis, varsity junior Kevin Santos Espinal shared his hopes and expectations for the 2026 season: “For this year’s season, I’m hoping we can go undefeated, create bonds with the seniors so that I can learn some skills from them, and just enjoy the small time I have with them.”
Many athletes listen to music, whether it’s before practice or to prepare themselves for a game. Listening to music before a game and practice is something that prepares and hypes up many athletes. Junior varsity sophomore Rene Avila shared his go-to artists before a game and why their music hypes him up: “My go-to artists before a game are Lil Baby and NBA Youngboy because their music hypes me up and keeps me in a good mood.” Alike with Rene, varsity senior Orlando Martinez shared his favorite artists to listen to before a game to get him prepared: “Before a game, I like to get prepared by listening to Ozuna and NBA Youngboy because they keep me in a good mood and in a winning mindset.”
With every sport comes determination and leadership from each athlete. Many boys on both junior varsity and Varsity look up to Juan Lucero-Vazquez and say he is an amazing player on and off the field. Varsity junior Dylan Arujo-Garcia shared why he looks up to Juan and what skills make him a great leader for the team. ” I look up to Juan-Danny Lucero-Vazquez because he’s a great person, he motivated the team, and he has a great playing technique.” Junior varsity sophomore Elvis Vazquez shared the reasoning why he and the JV team look up to Juan, “A player that we all look up to is Juan-Danny Lucero-Vazquez because he is a great leader and role model for both teams, he always motivates us to play better, and to practice at 110 percent.”
This year’s season is a very emotional season for many seniors because it is their last soccer season in high school. Varsity Seniors Elvis Santiago Cifuentes Reyes and Juan Lucero-Vazquez shared some words they would like to tell younger athletes who look up to them to encourage and help them follow their dreams: ” Make sure to work hard, stay consistent, practice 2 times a day by yourself or with a team.” He then added, “Look up to great players that are good not only on the field but also as people.”
Communication and trust are definitely necessary, as players depend on one another to achieve plays and support each other during difficult moments. “Something good about the team is that you gain new friends, and if you have a bad day, they make it better,” said senior Elvis Santiago Cifuentes. Coaches also play a crucial role by guiding athletes, building strategies, and pushing a positive environment for the team. This helps the team succeed both on and off the field.
Come and support our boys soccer teams at their future games!

I like how this article looked into what type of songs the soccer team players listen to because I don’t think any older soccer articles have done that yet which makes this one rather unique.

It’s really cool to see how much dedication and teamwork the boys soccer team puts into their season. I’ve played sports where music and motivation from teammates made a big difference, so I can relate to how they get hyped before games. It sounds like having strong leaders like Juan really helps everyone stay focused and work together to reach their goals.

I enjoy playing soccer and the team sounds like a pretty good team over all and I also like how you listed the dates and who they will be versing and where it will be at. I like how they work with one another and not against each other.

I don’t like sports in general, but soccer does seem kind of fun. I would not play any sport on a real team, though. Only for fun.

I love soccer, but I had to stop after I broke my ankle. I really wish I could get back into it.

It is inspiring to see how much the soccer team values leadership and brotherhood this season. Having a role model like Juan Lucero-Vazquez clearly motivates the younger players to give 110 percent during every practice. good for them!

This was a great article. The players gave some great quotes and I loved how the seniors are trying to pass on their wisdom and be role models for both teams. I hope both teams have a winning season.
