As excitement and that wonderful smell of spring start coming up, the girls soccer season has begun! On Friday, February 27th marked the date that the girls soccer 2026 season began. With the joy and cheers of the new season, both junior varsity and varsity girls are preparing for a season full of victory and exciting games.
As the new season kicks off, there are many things to look forward to. From building bonds with teammates to showing Osbourn what our Lady Eagles are capable of, varsity senior Andria Davis shared her hopes for the new season: “I am hoping to accomplish communication with the team, build a bond for the underclassmen, and just show what our Osbourn girls are capable of.” Similar to Andria, varsity sophomore Brianna Rios shared some things she wants to improve on, with not only herself but also with the team: ” I feel like this season we can win more games and work on our shooting more.”
With this year’s new season, Osbourn welcomes a new soccer coach for the junior varsity team. Junior varsity, Coach Konte shared what it feels like to be a first-year coach here at Osbourn: “As a first-year coach for Osbourn, it’s a lot more work than I thought, but it is fun, and I’m excited to work with these girls.” She then added her hopes for the new season and what she wishes to accomplish with the team.”This season, my hopes with the girls are bonding, laughing, seeing them run, and winning, and I’m hoping to work on conditioning and first touches this season.”
Many people love trying new things, whether it’s a new hobby or listening to a song they have never listened to before. There is always something new to try. This year, many freshmen have decided to try out for soccer for the first time and made the team. Junior varsity player Deborah Sambrano shared some of the perks of trying out for soccer for the first time and making the junior varsity team. “Soccer is new to me, and I like doing things out of my comfort zone because it helps me build new skills and create new connections with people I now love.”
Every athlete has their own unique way of getting prepared for a game. Many athletes like to listen to music and focus on the game and skills they can improve. Varsity freshman Nicole Romero shared how she prepares herself mentally and physically for a game ” I like to prepare myself for a game by listening to music, stretching, and praying to God that everything goes well and to keep the team and I safe,” junior varsity player Brianna Paz Guardado then added “I also like to prepare myself before a game by praying for my team and I, and I also like to listen to pre-game songs and putting my full focus on the game.”
“I just think about what I need to work on,” said freshman Roselyn Moreno. Players stretch before a game; some love stretching, some dislike it, but it is a crucial thing before a game to prepare their bodies and minds. “My favorite stretch is lunges because you can feel the stretch,” said sophomore Litzy Nolasco. An exciting moment for a soccer team is when they go against their rival or a competitive or easy team that they know they’re going to beat. ” I like going against Potomac because I think that it’s an immediate win and we always have fun,” said sophomore Genesis Reyes.
Leadership is one of the key skills every athlete has to have. Many junior varsity girls look up to the girls on varsity because they set great examples not only on the field but also as people. Junior varsity player Bella Smith shared why she looks up to the girls on varsity and how they help her better herself in the game. “I look up to all the players on varsity because they have a really good playing technique and are great leaders,” she then added, ” The varsity girls are really good at helping the girls on the junior varsity team as well, because they motivate them to keep going and to not give up even if they are feeling down.”
One of the main features of girls soccer is teamwork. Every position, from forwards to defenders to the goalkeeper, plays an important role in the result of the game. Every soccer player has someone that they look up to, whether it’s a famous person, someone from their team, or a family member. “I look up to Izzy Calvillo because she plays well and is a leader. I also look up to senior Nisha Minas and senior Jaylan Bowman because they guide you,” said freshman Roselyn Moreno.
High school soccer helps create a powerful sense of community and school spirit. Students, teachers, parents, and families go out to support both teams, cheering them on during the games and celebrating their achievements. “Something that keeps me going is the team and love and passion for the sport,” said freshman Roselyn Moreno. “Something good about the team is that you gain new friends and if you have a bad day they make it better,” said junior Daviana Vidal Quiroz.

It is really cool to see how the team uses music and prayer to get ready for their big games. In my experience, being a part of a team is the best way to make close friends and learn how to work together. I am definitely planning to go to the home games to cheer on the Lady Eagles and see them win!

I like to watch soccer as it’s a very fast paced and exciting sport. I might have to come watch a game sometime in the future. Good luck to the girls soccer team!

I really like soccer and I would love to join this team, but I would never be allowed to play soccer because I broke my ankle. The games seem really fun, though!

do not watch soccer. It is not for me. But I like to see people work together as a team. Being part of a group is good for making friends. We should all find a hobby that makes us happy even if it is not sports. I hope the girls have fun and stay safe while they play.

I like how this article shows how leadership, communication, and bonds can affect their team in a positive way. I also like how they included quotes that uplifted teammates and the quotes that show upperclassmen set a good role model for the underclassmen on the team.

This article gave me a lot of information about the girls soccer team. I didn’t know they had a new coach, but it sounds like she’s going to be a perfect fit. I love how all the players seem like great teammates and they try to support each other. Good luck to the Lady Eagles
