Valentine’s Day is the one day full of love, happiness, and romance, whether platonic or not, love is being passed around on this special day. So, since this special day is TODAY, we asked some students how they will be spending this holiday.
“For Valentine’s Day my friends and I are going to Chick-fil-A to try their heart tray nuggets and then go shopping at Target right after,” says Alessandra Vilchez, and another response from Charlotte Vargas, “My boyfriend and I will be going to Olive Garden for dinner on Valentine’s Day, and we might go somewhere else afterwards.” Going out to eat somewhere was a popular choice for Valentine’s Day, but what are some other activities Osbourn High School students are doing? “Me and my mom will be spending Valentine’s Day together and going to watch a movie,” says Sofia Rivera. Marshall Lopez also shares some ideas with us: “Some ways of enjoying Valentine’s Day are going out to eat with some friends, going to an arcade, or maybe just dressing up for the occasion.”
Most Osbourn students are celebrating Valentine’s, even if it’s in a different way than some others. But what about the ones who aren’t celebrating? Bella Smith shares with us why she isn’t celebrating Valentine’s Day: “I’m not celebrating Valentine’s Day because I have no one to spend the day with, and I choose books over boys.” Allyson Fernandez also tells us why she isn’t celebrating the Day, “I don’t really want to spend any money on gifts, and there’s nothing for me to do on Valentine’s Day.” Though not all students are celebrating Valentine’s Day, there are still many who do celebrate it and enjoy this special day. “I like Valentine’s Day because I get to buy or make gifts for some of my friends and receive gifts as well. I also get to go out with my friends,” said Marshall Lopez.
With Valentine’s Day being such a heartwarming day, I asked some Osbourn students their opinions on this holiday
One question we asked was “Would you rather get chocolates or flowers for Valentine’s Day?” and here is what people had to say.
“I would rather get flowers on Valentine’s Day than chocolates because flowers always brighten my room”, said Simone Ward. “I would rather get flowers on Valentine’s Day”, said Ana Cernucan, “I love flowers, so I’d rather get flowers on Valentine’s Day,” said Shannon McCusker. “I think I would rather get chocolates for Valentine’s, I like flowers too, though. I only pick chocolates because I love chocolate, but flowers seem better in retrospect because they last longer,” said Gabby Madison. Ultimately, while chocolate is a sweet choice, it seems like most people would prefer a fresh bouquet to make their Valentine’s Day.
Another would you rather question I asked was “ Would you rather receive a homemade gift or a store-bought gift?”
“I would rather have a homemade gift because there is more thought and effort that goes into it,” said Madison Hartsell. “This question is kinda hard because I love flowers, which are store-bought, but I love a nice homemade gift because it makes me feel thought of,” said Olivia Nagro. “I would rather receive a thoughtful homemade gift because I feel it is more heartfelt,” said Darilin Tenas Valenzuela. In the end, it’s clear that while store-bought gifts are nice, nothing beats the extra effort and personal touch of something handmade.
And the last would you rather question I asked was “Would you rather stay in for a movie night or go out to a fancy dinner?”
“I would rather go out to a fancy dinner,” said Alexa Angulo. “I’d rather go out because I love eating out and sitting in fancy restaurants and talking, but I also like a nice home-cooked meal,” said Olivia Nagro. “I would rather go out to a fancy restaurant because I deserve it,” said Darilin Tenas Valenzuela. “I would rather go out to a fancy dinner than stay in and watch a movie. I like to get ready and go out, but watching a good movie at home is always fun. Plus, going out with my family is always a good time,” said Gabby Madison. Clearly, while a cozy movie night has its perks, most people are ready to get dressed up and head out for a fancy meal they feel they truly deserve.
What is Valentine’s Day without a nice romantic movie to watch on this romantic day?
“My favorite romanic movie is Legally Blonde because I just love the main character because she is really funny,” said Diogo Ferreira Pereira, “I love How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and She’s the Man,” said Shannon McCusker, “A movie that I like that is romantic is How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, said by Ana Cernucan. “My favorite romantic movie is 10 Things I Hate About You, and my favorite romantic show is an anime called Fruit Basket,” said Simone Ward. Romance movies can range from heartfelt to comedic and sad, but no matter what you prefer, they are always entertaining and fun to watch.
Now, the last question I asked students was “What are your overall thoughts on Valentine’s Day?”
“I think it’s cute if you have somebody to celebrate with,” said Alexa Angulo. “Overall, Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays because it spreads love throughout friendships and relationships. I think Valentine’s Day is such a cute holiday too because I love pink,” said Simone Ward. “I love Valentine’s Day because of all the gifts and thoughtfulness, but I do feel if you have a boyfriend, it makes it better,” said Olivia Nagro. “I think Valentine’s Day is important because it shows how much we care and love each other,” said Deborah Sambrono. “I think it’s a nice holiday, it could still be fun even if you have a partner or not, and you can still participate in Valentine’s Day activities with your friends,” said Darilin Tenas Valenzuela. Ultimately, whether they were focused on romance or just hanging out with friends, it’s clear that these students see Valentine’s Day as a great excuse to show some extra love and appreciation to the people who matter most to them.
In the end, it doesn’t matter if you’re out on a fancy date or just hanging out with your best friends watching a rom-com. Valentine’s Day at Osbourn is really just about making people feel special, whether that’s with a bouquet of flowers or a thoughtful homemade gift. It’s the perfect time to show some love to the people who make our lives better every day.
So what are your overall thoughts on Valentine’s Day? Tell us in the comments!

I love valentine’s day. I like seeing people get and give baskets. I do love receiving chocolates more in my opinion, I love flowers but I do forget to take care of them.

I love Valentine’s Day! My boyfriend and I went to Texas de Brazil in Fairfax, and then right after we went to the ball and we got each other a Build a Bear.
I love both flowers and chocolates, and I got both! Valentine’s Day was so fun this year.

I love this story about Valentine’s Day! It is so nice that people can be happy with their friends or their family. I think flowers are so pretty because they are beautiful in there own way , but chocolates are a yummy treat too.

Earlier in the month, me and my friends had a Gal-entine’s party to celebrate our friendship. On the day itself, though, I went on a date. My favorite rom-com movie is You’ve Got Mail with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. It’s cheesy, but so adorable.
