Are you on time for class? In the first week back from winter break, Osbourn Eagles were hit with a few tardy sweeps, catching many students who weren’t on time to class. Many students were given consequences and warnings due to the tardy sweep.

With the many students who were caught in the tardy sweeps, some made it on time to class and luckily did not get caught. Freshman Jose Luna shared the things he noticed when students were aware of the tardy sweep. “The first tardy sweep, I almost got caught, but luckily I didn’t, and the halls were full of kids rushing to get to class on time because they were afraid of getting caught.”

Tardy sweeps have affected a lot of students positively and have taught some to get to class on time. Sophomore Emmanuel Lucero shared how the consequences of being caught in multiple tardy sweeps changed him for the better.”Since I got caught more than once, I got after-school detention, but it has changed me a bit for the better because now I have started to get to class on time.”

Many schools have tardy sweeps, and they have a good impact, but sometimes they could also have a negative influence. Sophomore Litzy Nolasco  shared her thoughts on why she thinks tardy sweeps can’t be determined good or bad for our school.”I think tardy sweeps can’t be defined as good or bad for our school because at the end of the day, there will always be some students who practically really don’t care about going to class on time, but it could possibly be good for some students so they learn a lesson and start going to class on time.”

Like many bad choices, being late comes with consequences. Sophomore Brisa Sosa-Puebla shared some of the consequences as well as the consequences she got when she got caught in a tardy sweep.”The first time you get caught, they give you a warning, but the second time, you get after-school detention/reset. Luckily, I only got the warning, but it has affected me because now I have to be more careful with being late cause if I get caught again, I am going to get detention.”

Although lateness comes with consequences,  being early to class can get students some rewards as well. “Yeah, I do like getting rewards. You can put them on your resume, and it is good for your job, and I also like the cookies and chips we were rewarded with,” said junior Daeden Brown. She then added why she thinks being early to class can impact your future in a positive way “Being on time to class will most definitely affect your attendance in the future, because you’re already building a habit and most people don’t realize that getting caught in tardy sweeps is building a habit of laziness and not being on time, which would be bad for their future jobs and interviews.”

Lastly, freshman Melanie Perez-Pinto shared her opinion on why going to class on time makes a difference and is better than being late.”For me personally, going to class on time does make a difference compared to when  I don’t make it on time, because being late to class means that you are missing some minutes of class time, which can affect you and make you feel left behind on work, and that can be stressful,” she explained.
