As winter approaches, students trade light layers for heavier, warmer clothing that reflects the season’s latest fashion trends. While everyone’s clothing changes throughout the year, some can notice a trend in every year’s winter fashion. When I asked Freshman Gabriella Madison, she said, “The most common thing I see when winter time rolls around is definitely puffer jackets. I guess they’re so popular because they aren’t really exclusive to one gender, and it’s really easy to make an outfit with it.” While puffer jackets are a staple to winter clothing because of their ability to be styled and keep you warm, they aren’t the only trending item at the moment. Freshman Ngoc Le says, “A current trend I’m seeing right now in winter fashion is that people are wearing coats with fur on the hood, and UGG boots.” Over the years, faux fur has definitely become a trend again since the 2000s. As winter continues, it’s clear that comfort and style go hand in hand, with trends like puffer jackets, faux fur, and UGG boots dominating student wardrobes.
Out of these popular clothing trends, many students have personal favorites that define their style during the colder months. According to Freshman Ngoc Le, “One of my favorite obsessions in winter fashion right now is probably an off-the-shoulder sweater, since it’s a very cute looking style of sweater, and is great for staying warm. It also goes with almost anything. Another trend I’m currently obsessed with is probably a fur hood zip-up because it’s cute and can be layered nicely with other clothes.” This shows how some students value clothing that is both fashionable and practical during the winter months. Another student, Adriana Rich, who is also a freshman, shared a similar opinion, saying, “I like wearing my UGGs, because they are cozy and keep me warm. I also like to pair skinny jeans with them because it looks cute.” From off-the-shoulder sweaters to UGG boots, students are choosing winter staples that keep them warm without sacrificing style.
For students who want to stay both stylish and warm during the winter months, some students shared where they prefer to shop for clothes. Freshman Sophia Alas Morataya says, “I think Hollister because it’s just my favorite brand in general. Their new winter clothes are super cute, especially their jackets, and I haven’t heard complaints about their jackets. I have only heard that they are super good quality.”
Another freshman, Kendal Metz, also says, “I feel like Hollister never disappoints with winter clothing every year.” While Hollister remains a popular choice among students for its trendy winter selection, Hollister can be a more expensive brand compared to other options. More budget-friendly stores such as Macy’s, Charlotte Russe, and Ross. Thirst stores are also a great option for finding unique and affordable winter pieces that match your personal style.
While price and availability matter, having the right winter pieces and accessories is just as important. Freshman Gabriella Madison said, “I want to see more scarves. Even though it’s more of an accessory than a clothing item, I just think scarves are so cute and stylish, and I would love to see them show up more in people’s outfits.”
While accessories can elevate an outfit, other students choose the importance of staying warm. Sophia Alas Morataya, who is also a freshman, says, “I think everyone should have at least one pair of thermal socks. I personally like them because my feet are always cold, and thermal socks are the best way to prevent cold feet.” Together, these items highlight how winter fashion combines both style and warmth.

I agree with Gabriella Madison when she talks about wanting to see more scarves, I think wearing a scarf is a good way to stay warm but also look fashionable during winter.

This article is helpful because it tells us what winter fashion is popular at our school right now, like puffer jackets and UGG boots. It’s cool that the article mentions stores that are affordable for students. I agree that everyone wants to be warm and still look good, which seems easy with these trends.

I think this article is really well put together! I agree with Kendal Metz when she talks about how Hollister is a staple brand in the freezing winter and when she talks about how they keep their winter clothes cute. I also like Adriana Rich’s quote where she talks about wearing skinny jeans and boots- I will jump on that train with her and say I think that’s an adorable combo!

I definitely agree with Gabriella puffer jackets are everywhere right now because they go with literally anything! My personal obsession recently is the sweater look that Ngoc mentioned it’s so much cuter than a regular hoodie but still keeps you warm.

My favorite clothing item for winter is definitely UGGs because they are so comfortable and I feel like they go with anything. I also love the coats with the fur because it reminds me a lot of the 2000’s and I love that vintage style.

I don’t enjoy the faux fur trend, but Uggs are a perfect stylish foot wear choice. I’ve been having a hard time finding an affordable and cute coat. I’m currently just wearing a windbreaker because the temperatures haven’t called for a heavy puffer a lot.

I think it’s very interesting to see the clothing trends. So many people share the same opinions on Hollister and UGGs.
