A lot of kids and teens nowadays go thrifting for cute or vintage clothing that fits their style. When you go thrifting, there are a lot of strategies to do so, so you can find what you want. Some people go early to thrift stores or check the bottom racks for stuff people have hidden to buy later. A junior, Lilly Donahue, said the strategies she has for going thrifting are “Knowing what I want to buy and having an inspiration.”
When you go thrifting, you should always know what you’re looking for because when you know what you want, you should be able to find it easier and still have time to shop for other items you might want. Some people look for good quality clothing and avoid rips and tears, just because they don’t want to buy a piece of clothing just for it to be damaged and not wearable.
Other tactics are going to thrift stores at certain times, or when they know that stores have new items donated there.
Cindy Martinez said, “When I go thrifting, I look at clothes and try them on before buying them,” which is also a great thing to do because you wouldn’t want to buy something too big or too small, because sometimes people put the sizes in the wrong place.
When thrifting, prices are a big thing to look for. Because certain items that were once cheap at one store are way more than they should be at another. Jeily Ridriguez also says when she goes thrifting, her prices are $10-$30. Kids our age look for vintage and brand-name items when thrifting. They want items that are sold for cheaper than they really are. Prices are usually $4-$10 per item. Thrifting isn’t an expensive hobby at all. I believe this is why a lot of people go thrifting.
Kids in high school go thrifting a lot and shop for new and cute-looking clothes. When thrifting now, there’s a lot of vintage clothing from the 2000s. Thrifting gives people the opportunity to find good clothes that they were looking for. Some kids look for streetwear, others look for vintage clothing. People have a lot of different styles, and thrifting gives them a chance to find their own style.
We asked Lilly Donahue, a junior at Osbourn, what she looks for, and she said, “Of course I look for vintage clothes, mostly baby tees and or jeans.”
Thrift stores have good quality brands for so much less than they would normally be sold for, and unique clothes that are not being produced anymore, which is exactly what people are looking for.
There are many good thrift stores in the local area. Some good places to thrift at are Plato’s Closet, Goodwill, and Salvation Army.

this article is good because it gives a lot of helpful tips for students who want to find cool clothes without spending too much money. I like how it mentions specific strategies, like looking at the bottom of the racks or checking for rips before you buy something.
