I interviewed five students from local high schools, such as Osbourn High School, Osbourn Park High School, and Manassas Park High School. I also talked to one teacher from OHS about their Black Friday shopping experience. Everyone’s answers covered where to find the best deals, if they like shopping online or in a store, and which stores they recommend.

First, I talked to my friend, Eymi Ortiz. She’s a freshman at Osbourn Park High School. I asked her what stores had the best deals. “The best sales for Black Friday were the ones mostly online, like Amazon, Hollister, Macy’s, etc. For stores, I like to shop in Victoria’s Secret and Bath & Body Works. I love their deals!” I asked if she likes online shopping or going into the stores better. “I prefer online shopping because it’s better and not being crowded in the store, and also because some staff or the manager changes the price and tricks you, so that’s why I prefer online shopping.” I totally agree with her. Sometimes the price looks good, but stores can trick you into paying more. 

Next, I interviewed Lisbeth Espinoza, who is an 11th grader at OHS. I asked her what she thinks about Black Friday. “Black Friday was fun, you get a lot of good things for cheap,” I asked where she went shopping for Black Friday. She said  “I went to the Leesburg Outlets, Fair Oaks Mall, it was really packed though, and not very much stuff was left, but I was still able to find some things that I liked.” What she said is true. Some people go a little crazy and buy everything. Some stores I went into looked half empty. 

   The third person I talked to was Gabriella Dominguez Reyes, a freshman. I asked if Black Friday felt less crowded this year. “It wasn’t as crowded as last year, but the line for North Face in Potomac Mills was long, going across the other side of it, and I think it wasn’t that crowded because people shop more online than in person.” My next question was why she went shopping and what she bought. “I went shopping for clothes because almost all clothes have more discounts.” I agree with her on this one. I also look for clothes when everything is on sale.  

My fourth person is Briana Lopez, a 10th grader from OHS. I asked if it was calm or crazy where she went for Black Friday. “Where I went wasn’t that hectic; it was mostly calm and not that crazy like before.” I asked if she goes every year with family or just by herself. “Not really, I usually just do online shopping. It’s easy and gets home faster instead of going out in the cold.” I like her answer because it is way too cold to go outside. I would rather stay home and be warm, too. 

Then I interviewed my friend Christopher Lopez. He is a freshman at Manassas Park High School. I asked him his opinion on Black Friday. “I don’t go shopping, it’s just a scam, and they don’t even put the prices down. Instead, they trick you and just make you buy it at a higher price, that’s why I don’t like Black Friday.” His answer surprised me, so I asked him about online shopping. “Well, online shopping is fin,e but it’s the same thing, they can scam you. I would rather not shop online or in person for Black Friday. I just don’t believe it.” 

My final source was the journalism teacher at OHS, Ms. Miller. I asked if she went shopping for Black Friday, and this was her response. “I did shop on Black Friday, but I shopped at a mall in Florida because I was there for Thanksgiving, and I bought 4 gifts for 4 people and a few things for myself.” I asked her where she shopped and what she bought. “I mostly bought clothing and beauty items for Black Friday. The stores I shopped at were Lilly Pulitzer, and Sephora.”

  I am glad I got to interview all these people. Some people don’t like Black Friday at all, and some people really prefer shopping online instead of going out to the stores.
