Halloween is right around the corner! What are you being this Halloween? Are you wondering what some students at Osbourn High School are going to be this year? Let’s find out what students are going to be, and let’s also look into the process while we are at it!
First of all, what’s a costume without inspiration or a background story? Let’s see what Adrianna Rodriguez, a freshman, said, “Growing up, I always watched Sesame Street, and it quickly became my favorite children’s show. Cookie Monster was my favorite character because he loves chocolate chip cookies, and I also enjoy eating chocolate chip cookies, so that is where my inspo came from.” It is so cool to see the thought process behind certain costumes, but do you ever wonder about the shopping process of a costume? Some people buy accessories very last minute, and others buy them way earlier.
Have you already picked out everything? “I have already gone shopping for my costume. This year, I’m gonna be Tinkerbell, which I’m excited for because I feel like she is such an adorable character. The accessories for that costume are the wings, which are a really fun accessory because I am able to pick any color I want,” said Gabriella Madison. I know a lot of people out there shop online for costumes, but where do you get your costumes and accessories?
“I used to go to Spirit Halloween when I was younger, but I don’t shop there as much anymore. For right now, I do a lot of online shopping on Amazon. The only downside of online shopping is probably not being able to try on clothes,” said Gabriella. What do you prefer? Online shopping or in-person shopping?
Speaking of shopping, maybe you already have part of a costume and are remaking an old costume. Costume remakes are really common because there is always room for improvement. Adrianna Rodriguez said, “My costume is an improved version of my Cookie Monster onesie from when I was younger because I think I can definitely improve from a onesie.” Hopefully, we get to see some more amazing remakes soon!
Every year, I see unique costumes that have their own little twist. I really enjoy seeing how people can be unique with their costumes. Mr. Michael Edwards, an English teacher here at Osbourn High School, has a very interesting twist about his costume. “What makes it unique is that the costume is not an inflatable costume, but from my wardrobe to make a Chikawa character.” This is a really cool twist because usually you would assume that a Chikawa character should be made as an inflatable, but he is making the costume from his wardrobe!
I am super excited to see everyone’s costumes and especially getting to see all of the cool makeup! But, I have always wondered, how long does it usually take to put on cosplay makeup? What is the process? I asked Gabby Mejia, a student who will be doing makeup, how long it would take her to put her costume together. “I honestly think it will take about an hour and a half because I am going to be Sasuke. The makeup and face paint will take about 40 minutes, this is because I have to take time to define the curse mark, then I will slip into my costume.”
What will you be for this year’s Halloween? Are you going for a scary or cute look? Do you usually do scary costumes, or “always cute,” as Mr. Edwards said? I know a lot of people who will be something scary this Halloween. I hope everyone has an amazing Halloween!!

This year, I’m going as Peter Pan and my 2 friends are going as Tinker Bell and Wendy. My favorite Halloween costumes that I’ve done in the past are Jim Henson and Elliott from E.T.
