Here at Osbourn, our cosmetology students are busy with engaging activities. The course has you do plenty of hands-on tasks such as hair styling, nail art, and of course, makeup! “I would honestly say practical work like hands-on working on clients or working on our classmates is the best. I feel like that’s so fun to me and I also feel like that’s where I learn the most,” said senior Leslie Villata.
“The program is really good; it helps you get a job at a salon and you learn a lot like barbering, skincare, like whatever you want- there’s a lot of variety,” said senior Paola Diaz.
“The goal is to get our cosmetology licenses at the end of the course. We have to complete 148 hours so we can test for our cosmetology license, so we learn all areas of cosmetology such as cutting, coloring, chemical texturing, skin, facials, and nails everything in the cosmetology field to create productive cosmetologists that can enter the force. I just feel like cosmetology is such an amazing profession and it is very rewarding and just a great choice,” said cosmetology teacher, Ms. Deleon.
Now onto what our future cosmetologists have to say about their favorite beauty trends for spring 2024.
“I would honestly say I like long layers and curtain bangs, like the luscious blowouts. That’s my favorite; that’s what I love,” said Leslie Villata.
“I just love balayages on people, I just like it when it is not too much and they look natural,” said senior Evelin Castillo.
“I love the fun eyeliner tricks, like colorful eyeliner designs. I think those are fun to do,” said senior Shayla Gonzales.
“Probably skunk-striped hair,” said senior Sydney Radford.
Seeing what our students love and appreciate is intriguing, but what about beauty trends they currently dislike?
“Honestly, thick brows. They don’t have to look like bricks or like angry birds; we’re not in the movie- let it go,” said Shayla.
“The micro bangs, they’re kind of ugly,” said Evelin.
“I don’t hate anything- uhm well bobs are kind of ugly,” said Paola.
“I’m gonna be honest. I hate wolf cuts, like wolf cuts and mullets. I personally don’t like the look, it’s just my opinion,” said Leslie.
“Probably like the two front pieces dyed, yea I don’t really like that,” said Gaby.
“That soccer mom haircut, like short on one side and long on the other. Yeah, I don’t like it,” said Sydney.
Now enough with our current day trends, what are some past beauty trends that our cosmetology students wish to see again?
“Honestly normalizing matte lipsticks, like you don’t always have to wear gloss,” said Shayla.
“Sometimes like the Y2k look, but like renewed into 2024 style,” said Evelin.
“I would say the Y2k style, like thin eyebrows, really silky straight hair, and like layers. I really wish I got to see those trends come back,” Leslie.
“More natural curly hairstyles,” said Paola.

I think the cosmetology course looks really fun, and it’s a nice way to be creative. I definitely agree that I would like to see the Y2K style come back.

I agree with shayla about the thick eyebrows. Its not that hard to to wax or maybe even thread your eyebrows.

I agree with Leslie, I honestly do not like mullets especially when they have straight hair, It just looks so bad. I love the matte lip, Whenever I do my full face I always go for the matte lips and on my natural days I’ll wear a gloss.
