This year was filled with many memories for this year’s 9th graders. Whether good or bad, in this article, many freshmen look back at this school year with a mix of regret and happiness.
Many freshmen decided to challenge themselves by taking rigorous courses. For AP classes, some freshmen took AP Human Geography and AP Spanish Language and Culture. For Honors classes, some freshmen took Honors English and Honors Biology. Many 9th graders have a lot to say about the challenging classes they took this year. Diogo Ferreira Pereira said, “The most challenging class that I took this year was Honors English 9th, specifically with Mr. Nejame, because of the amount of challenging assignments he gave us. You would think it was AP Human Geography that was the most challenging, but no.” Sophia Alas Morataya said, “I think the most challenging class I took this year was Algebra 2 because we have to learn the material very quickly, and I often get stuck behind. There is also a lot of work to do in that class.” Iris Machado Canales said, “The most challenging class I took this year was Honors English. This year, I have not been so productive with my work, which caused my grades to be lower than I wanted.” “The most challenging class I took this year was biology,” said Angela Moran.
Many freshmen are also planning to take advanced classes next year for their sophomore year. Diogo Ferreira Pereria said, “I plan on taking 1 AP class, which is AP Psychology. I am also planning on taking 3 honors classes, which are Honors English 10, Honors Geometry, and Honors Chemistry.” Sophia was less willing to take any advanced classes. She said, “I’m not taking advanced classes next year because I think they’re too hard. This year I took Honors Biology, and it was a bit hard.” Angela Moran said, “I don’t plan on taking any advanced classes next year.” “Next year, I am planning to take Honors English 10, AP World History, AP Precalculus, and Honors Chemistry,” said Iris. Maylin Villanueva said, “Next year I’m planning on taking AP World History and Honors Art.”
Among all these classes that the freshmen took this year, there are some favorites. Sophia Alas said, “My favorite class this year was Drawing 1 because we don’t have a lot of work to do in that class, and we’ve had a sub for over a month. I also have lots of friends in that class, so it’s really fun.” ”My favorite class this year was PE because I got to play different sports with my friends. One of my favorite sports to play with my friends was volleyball. I really enjoyed the moments when my team would pass the volleyball and get it over the net,” said Iris Machado. “My favorite class this year was Spanish. This was my favorite class because I really like the teacher. The work in the class isn’t super challenging, but if I’m ever confused, I know I can ask for help.” “My favorite class this year was Biology because I had a lot of friends in that class and science is my favorite subject,” said Diogo Ferreira. There were also so many amazing teachers this year! Every student has at least one teacher they really like and rely on! Sophia said, “My favorite teacher this year was Mrs. Olivari because she’s really nice and she’s a good teacher and gives us help when we need it.”
Besides all the academic stuff, the freshmen have their favorite moments and parts of the school year that they shared! “One memorable moment I had this year was when we did a spicy chip review in Journalism and got to eat spicy chips,” said Sophia. Diogo was also there for the spicy chip review. He said, “I loved eating all the different chips. I got to try some new types of chips and got to write an article about them. Everyone should definitely read it!” “My favorite part of the school year was all the times I got to hang out with my friends,” said Angela, and I’m sure we all feel the same way.

Algebra 2 and Honors English are definitely very hard. It is nice to read about other freshmen who feel the same way!
