In this article, we’re coming together to share our unique perspectives and personal experiences from our recent trips to see The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
Kiara’s Review
I recently watched The Super Mario Galaxy Movie at the Cinemark in Centreville, and honestly, it felt like more than just watching a film; it was a total experience. Sitting there in the dark theater with a large tub of popcorn, a bag of sour gummy worms, and a cold blue raspberry Icee, I was already excited, but the actual movie made the night even better. The theater environment really added to the excitement. There is something special about hearing a room full of people react at the same time to the humor and the action-packed moments that happened throughout the story. It made the whole event feel much more alive
The sequel really shows how much the Mario series can grow while still keeping the fun and energy that people have loved for years. One of the best parts of the movie is definitely the animation and creative settings. Since the story moves into outer space, every galaxy looks completely different, colorful, and unique. I was especially impressed by the scenes in the Honeyhive Galaxy and the Comet Observatory, which looked bright and imaginative. It never gets boring to look at the screen because there is so much detail in every frame. The action scenes, especially the high-stakes battles against Bowser Jr. and his army, are exciting and fast-paced. There is always something happening on screen, which keeps the audience interested from beginning to end.
What surprised me the most, however, was the emotional part of the story. I went in expecting a simple adventure, but the relationship between Princess Peach and the new character Rosalina adds something much deeper to the movie. Their bond makes the story feel more meaningful and gives the audience a reason to really care about what happens to them. It is more than just action and comedy; it’s a story that explores the history of the characters in a way that feels very personal. It adds a layer of emotion that you might not expect from a movie like this, which makes it stand out much more than the first one.
The movie also does a great job balancing humor and action. Characters like Luigi and R.O.B. had some really funny moments that made me laugh out loud, but the movie still kept its serious and exciting tone when it needed to. Even with the introduction of new heroes like Yoshi, the film keeps a very good pace the whole time. The humor helps break up the intense scenes, making the movie enjoyable for both little kids and older fans who grew up with the games.
Another thing I liked was all the hidden references to different Nintendo games. If you have played the games before, you will recognize a lot of small details, sounds, and background characters. It feels like a celebration of the whole Mario universe, and it shows how much effort the creators put into connecting the movie to the games fans already know and love.
Overall, I really enjoyed this movie. It is fun, emotional, and visually amazing. It builds on the first movie in a great way and sets up a bright future for the series. I would definitely recommend it to Mario fans, families, or anyone who just likes a great animated adventure.
Kayla’s Review
While I was watching The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, I noticed that many things were different from the first Super Mario movie, but the experience felt very real. I went to watch The Super Mario Galaxy Movie at the Regal Manassas movie theater in 4D. 4D basically means you get to watch the movie in special glasses while sitting in a chair, but it’s different from other movie theaters. These chairs are single chairs and have footstools. With 4D glasses, when you wear them and a water scene comes up or something happens, the glasses make you feel like you are really there. They are like special effects. They let you feel the wind on your face and spray water on you as well.
Before I entered the movie, I got some snacks. I got blue Takis, a Blue Razz Slushie, and some nachos.
During the movie, I noticed different things from the first movie: the plot changed. This movie was about Mario and Luigi facing Bowser’s son, Jr., who has kidnapped Princess Peach’s sister, Rosalina, and is determined to carry on his family’s legacy. The brothers have to travel across the stars to stop him, but along the way, Princess Peach learns where she comes from. After telling everyone the mushrooms found her in Mushroom Land, she finds out that she has a sister named Rosalina. They are developed by Stardust, and when they come together, they make Stardust, which is very dangerous. Princess Peach also learns that her sister sacrificed herself to save her, and that’s why she ended up in Mushroom Land. In the process of stopping Jr., she finds her sister, and they reconnect. However, in order to stop Jr., Rosalina and her Lumas sacrifice themselves to trigger a “big bang” that resets the universe, restoring the world but creating a new, slightly different version.
Throughout the movie, my emotions were on a roller coaster of adventures. There were so many twists and turns, it was hard to stay focused at first. But when I got on track with the movie, things were a lot easier to pay attention to. A lot more things caught my eye than in the first movie. For starters, the actors and characters stayed the same, but the plot shifted a bit. Instead of Bowser being the villain, it’s his son, Bowser Jr. There is a snippet of Bowser and Jr. when the movie first starts off, when Jr. attacks the Comet Observatory, abducting Princess Rosalina and stealing the Grand Stars to fuel his doomsday machine. Jr. only did what he did because he wanted to make his father proud of him and to show him that he can be just as evil as his father once was. When Jr. comes to his senses and realizes what he had done, he sees the cause and effect of trying to rule and destroy the world just to make his father notice him. He hopes that one day he and his dad can take over the world together and rule side by side.
My honest review on the movie is that it is really good and there are a lot of twists and turns. And it felt different because I watched it in 4d, which made my experience way better than watching it in a regular theater without the 4D. But even without the 4D glasses and seats, I’m sure I would still have enjoyed myself and the movie both ways, watching it. I didn’t just get to experience it; my friends also did. It was a night of laughing and smiles, but overall it’s a good movie, and I would recommend others to watch it if they want to see something new or haven’t heard of it before.
Overall, the movie was great, but we felt like it was a little rushed. We rate this movie an 8/10.

This article is really making me want to go watch the movie ! I liked the first Mario movie when it came out because it was so vibrant and mostly upbeat. The way Kiara is talking about the movie theater is making me miss it! I liked how in Kaylas part of the article she explained the plot for us.

I saw the Super Mario Galaxy movie a week or so ago. I thought it was fine. It wasn’t bad, but in my opinion, the first movie was much better. I did like a lot of the scenery from this movie, but the scenes were a little bit too fast for my taste.
