On February 13, 2026, British singer Charli xcx released her new album Wuthering Heights, a soundtrack album, accompanying the film released by the same name on the same date. The film is originally based on the 1847 novel Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. This is Charli xcx’s second soundtrack album and her first after the extremely successful album Brat, released in 2024. The soundtrack contains 12 songs and 2 features, from John Cale and Sky Ferreira. It was very hard to rank this almost perfect album, but I will do it to the best of my ability.
12. Out of Myself – 5/10
Starting off with the worst of the album, Out of Myself is not a bad song at all. Its sound is just all over the place, but that may be an artistic choice that I don’t understand. I’ve never really heard a Charli song like this, so I’m a bit confused as to why she would make it sound this different. I do like the melodic electronic sound to the song, mixing emotional and deep melodies with electronic sounds, but that barely raises the grade I would give the song. It’s also very short, which is disappointing. Again, it’s not bad, just not great in comparison to the amazing tracks that follow on the album.
11. Open Up – 5.5/10
Open Up is a very short song. Being only 1 minute and 26 seconds long, it is the shortest song of the entire album. With its only lyrics literally being “open up”, it’s a boring song to be honest. It’s just slightly better than Out of Myself because of Out of Myself’s chaotic beat, and I do appreciate some of the sounds of Open Up. The song has a very orchestral sound to it, which I do like. Other than that, this song is a skip, unfortunately.
10. Seeing Things – 6.5/10
Seeing Things is a song that has a very orchestral-sounding chorus, but it has a faster beat than most orchestral-oriented songs on this album. The chorus repeats the same line a few times, “I think I’m seeing things”, which is nice to listen to, but overall, the song is very boring compared to other songs on the album. It’s decent.
9. Chains of Love – 7/10
Chains of Love is a song that blends a catchy sound with sad and sorrowful lyrics. According to Genius, the song is about a relationship that is strong yet feels like you’re trapped in it. It has a nice beat, but it may get boring if you listen to it a lot, as I have. I do really like the chorus of the song where she sings “Shattering like glass. It’s the breaking of my heart. The chains of love are cruel. I shouldn’t feel like a prisoner.” This part really conveys the main message of the song, in my opinion. It’s almost like something sung right from Charli’s heart.
8. My Reminder – 8/10
My Reminder is a slower song with a good beat and tempo. According to Genius, it’s a song about being in a tough place with someone you’re in a relationship with, but you remember the memories you had with them, and it keeps you going. Her voice glitches a little throughout the song, and the volume of it almost reminds me of when someone’s voice echoes after they speak in a cave. Overall, My Reminder is a really good song, but some people may find it boring due to its being slow. That is not the case at all for me, as I really enjoy this song, but it just ranks low due to the following songs being so good.
7. House (featuring John Cale) – 8/10
House is a song that has blown up all over social media. The song starts out with a dark and mysterious spoken intro by John Cale, a Welsh singer mostly known for being a part of the Velvet Underground, an old American rock band. It reminds me of a psychological horror movie because of its suspenseful sound. The song then transitions into the well-known part by Charli xcx and John Cale, “I think I’m gonna die in this house.” This line is sung, repeated a few times, and then immediately jumps into a chaotic, loud, and electronic version of this line until the song ends. The sound change represents a sense of growing urgency to me, to the point where someone is screaming. I would give this song an 8/10. It doesn’t have a lot of depth during the sung part as the same line is just repeated a few times, but it’s a fun listen if you like mysterious and dark-sounding songs, as I do. House is the most horror-sounding song of the album. The music video is also very interesting and fun to watch, with dark imagery.
6. Altars – 8.5/10
Altars is a song that starts off with a slow beat, with her dragging out her notes. As the song progresses, it gets somewhat faster. The song uses religious imagery, with the chorus centering around altars. It’s a very dramatic song, with the chorus being, “I’m at your altar, baby. I once believed, I once believed I was free. I’m at your altar, baby, now I can see, you’re gonna end up killing me. Oh, I must only be one.” Altars is a reflective song; you can’t really dance to it, but it’s a good song to listen to if you’re studying or doing work. This is a song that I feel sounds like a true dramatic movie soundtrack song based on its sound. It reminds me of the part of a movie where the storyline turns suddenly, and the main character is having troubles, with a sad song playing in the background.
5. Dying for You – 8.5/10
Dying for You is a catchy song that, unlike Altars, you can easily dance to. The song is about being in bad times during a relationship, but still wanting the person that you’re with, as expressed by lyrics like, “All the pain and torture that I went through, all makеs sense to me now, I was dying for you, I was dying for you, I was dying for you. Evеn right at the end, I’ll keep dying for you.” While Dying for You has a deeper meaning that most dance songs don’t, it still has an amazing chorus and is one of the most upbeat songs of the album, which is a positive in my eyes.
4. Funny Mouth – 9/10
Funny Mouth is a song that has a darker, suspenseful sound, almost reminiscent of House. As the song moves on from the first verse to the chorus, the sound grows in intensity. After the chorus, the song drops more into a horror-like, dramatic orchestral sound. It reminds me of a slasher movie score like 1960’s Psycho, specifically its song The Murderer. It sounds like a slower, less intense version of that iconic Hollywood horror sound. This song is a great choice for people who love darker and more mysterious sounds. If you want another Charli xcx track like House, Funny Mouth is the song you’re looking for. I honestly prefer it over House because of House‘s sudden switch into an electro sound, which can be alarming. Funny Mouth’s post-chorus, where she sings “Alright, alright” while holding the notes and lowering her voice, suddenly, honestly makes the song a lot scarier.
3. Wall of Sound – 9/10
Wall of Sound is a song with orchestral instrumentals and sorrowful lyrics. The song is about emotional overload and emotion being inescapable. The lyrics from the chorus, “Every time I try, Something inside stops me, yeah,” really portray this as the meaning of the song. The song progresses with layered vocals and speeds up, showing that her emotions are getting stronger as the track goes on. The song ends abruptly with a crazy outro, a suspenseful sound effect building up and then immediately disappearing. I really enjoy this song, it sounds like a true movie soundtrack song, similar to.
2. Always Everywhere – 9.5/10
Always Everywhere is not a typical Charli xcx song. While Charli usually makes upbeat, hyperpop music, most notably from her Brat album, this song takes a U-turn in the other direction and moves into slower orchestral sounds with cello, double bass, viola, and violin, according to Apple Music. If you’re thinking of the typical sounds of a movie score, this is the song that sounds most similar to one, due to its sound and lyricism. It does sound reflective and somewhat sad, so it’s not a good song to listen to if you’re looking for a song to dance to, but overall, it’s a solid track and one of the best on the album. Charli’s voice sounds really nice on this track, and the chorus repeating “Always everywhere” a few times in a row is a good touch that makes the song really enjoyable.
1. Eyes of the World (featuring Sky Ferreira) – 10/10
The best track on the album in my eyes, Eyes of the World, is the most impactful sounding song out of the 12. It features Sky Ferreira, an American singer who has worked with Charli xcx once before, on Cross You Out, released in 2019. The best way I can describe it is reminiscent of a hero’s triumph in a movie. As the song progresses, it moves from Charli’s main triumph and powerful sounding chorus, to Sky Ferreira’s darker, more mysterious verse, back to another chorus, only this time, louder and more Sky Ferreira-focused instead of Charli xcx-focused. The lyrics are confusing, but they may portray a darker message than the sound of the song, with lyrics like “No matter what I do, no matter what I say, you’re gonna think the things you think about me anyway.” The song ends with Ferreira’s voice fading out, repeating “Through the eyes of the World”. I would give this track a 10/10. I’ve been listening to it on repeat because of how good it is. It makes me feel like I’m on top of the World during the chorus. This is a must-listen.
Overall, I would give this album a 9.5/10. It’s not as good as some other Charli xcx projects like Number 1 Angel, Pop 2, or how i’m feeling now, in my opinion, but it did not let me down. There were songs like Out of Myself and Open Up that I didn’t really care for, but they weren’t bad by any means. This album is something Charli’s never done before. Wuthering Heights is an album that has tons of different types of songs, with orchestral songs, suspenseful songs, and even sad songs. I honestly couldn’t say it sounds like any of her previous albums or mixtapes because of how different it is from her usual sound. A change from Brat‘s electropop/club pop into Wuthering Heights’ more gothic pop/orchestral sound was unexpected, but nice to hear. It was very hard to rank my top songs, because all were almost tied in my mind because of how good they are. Always Everywhere and Eyes of the World (featuring Sky Ferreira) are definitely 2 of the best Charli xcx songs I’ve ever heard, as a superfan. If you like Charli xcx, different types of pop music, or if you’re just looking for some new music to listen to, you should give Wuthering Heights a try.

I have listened to the most popular songs by Charli xcx, but I’m not really a fan of her. I will give this album a try though.

I do not know these songs, but you are very smart to rank them. I like how you used numbers for the music. The scary songs sound spooky like a ghost, but I like the songs that make people dance.

I have not watched or listened to both the “Wuthering Heights” movie or the soundtrack, but it sounds interesting enough to listen and watch.

I haven’t watched “Wuthering Heights” or listened to the album unless it was on Instagram or something, but I think I should! This article is very good.
