Wicked: For Good is a sequel to the 2024 hit film Wicked, a prequel to The Wizard of Oz, which originated as a fanfiction book, was adapted into a musical, and ultimately, 2 movies. Wicked: For Good was released in theaters on November 21, 2025. Wicked: For Good is Act 2 of the Wicked musical, with Wicked being Act 1. Wicked: For Good takes place before, during, and after The Wizard of Oz.
Storyline – Written by Jackson Doll
Wicked: For Good starts one year after the first one, with Elphaba being demonized around the Land of Oz by Madame Morrible, who tries to portray her as evil and a “Wicked Witch”. Elphaba spends her time in the forest, trying to convince the animals to stay in Oz, who are trying to escape into the land below it, because of the Wizard and Madame Morrible caging animals around Oz.
Glinda and Fiyero, now engaged, are seen as the faces of “good” in contrast with Elphaba’s “evil,” even though they are not in favor of the demonization of their friend. Later, Elphaba goes to visit her sister, Nessarose, who is initially hesitant towards her, but changes her attitude when she is lifted off the ground. Nessarose later becomes angry and tries to cast a love spell on Boq when she learns he wants to travel to Glinda and Fiyero’s wedding and call it off, so he can marry Glinda. The spell goes terribly wrong and turns Boq into the Tin Man.
Afterward, Elphaba and Glinda reconnect right before the wedding, and Glinda tries to convince Elphaba to join the Wizard again. The Wizard seems promising this time and agrees to Elphaba’s request to give animals rights. But this all turns upside down when Elphaba finds animals locked in cages in a secret room in the Emerald City, including her former teacher, Doctor Dillamond. She no longer agrees to join the Wizard and seeks to destroy his reign of Oz, releasing the animals, which subsequently destroys Glinda and Fiyero’s wedding. Elphaba locks the Wizard in a cage while she and Fiyero fly off into the forest, leaving Glinda behind.
In the forest, Fiyero and Elphaba start a romantic relationship, but it is interrupted when Elphaba has a feeling that her sister is in trouble. In Munchkinland, Nessarose was crushed by Dorothy’s house, which was carried to Oz by a tornado Madame Morrible created. Elphaba gets angry at Glinda over Dorothy taking Nessarose’s shoes, and they have a fight. After the fight, Elphaba flies to her iconic castle and casts a spell on Fiyero to make him unbreakable, which turns him into the iconic Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz. Elphaba and Glinda later reconnect and say goodbye to each other while Dorothy’s trapped down in the basement.
I’m not going to spoil the ending of the movie, so you must watch Wicked: For Good in theaters to find out.
Costumes – Written by Briy Moody
The costumes in Wicked: For Good are to be described as big and extravagant. It would not be something I would personally wear, but I do think they’re very pretty.
Elphaba’s dress is long and black, matched with some stockings. Her dress is flowy, and she wears a cape to match it. She also wears boots and a purse to complete the outfit.
Glinda’s dress is described as purple and ‘poofy’. It is very sparkly and shiny, and I really like the slightly off-shoulder part with the see-through sleeves.
Fiyero ends up as the Scarecrow in the end, so he has straw as his body and his guard outfit as his outfit before he transforms. His guard outfit is fully green, with the golden metal on the original guard outfit replaced with more straw. Instead of his left arm being covered as well, he has a sleeve.
The Wizard wears a green suit jacket and a greenish-black vest with emeralds and chains connected. He also wears another shirt under the vest that is green and has a collar.
Madame Morrible wears a purple dress that is not particularly flowy, nor big and poofy. It is about medium- sized and has multiple layers. She has a collar around her neck, but not necessarily touching her neck.
Boq ends up as the Tin Man in the end, but he starts out with a green outfit with a white stitched outfit and four buttons in the middle of his chest and one button at the top where his neck is.
Music – Written by Briy Moody
The music in Wicked: For Good is good in my opinion, but Jackson has a differing opinion, stating that he does not believe it is as good as the music from the first movie.
Every Day More Wicked – Elphaba is trying to convince the Munchkins and Ozians that the Wizard is not good. Dearest Glinda, a reprise of “Dear Galinda, you are just too good” from the first movie is played.
No Place Like Home – Elphaba talks about how she doesn’t understand why she still likes the Land of Oz when nobody likes her. She states, ‘there’s no place like home’, referencing The Wizard of Oz.
Wonderful – The Wizard of Oz tries to show Elphaba that nobody would believe him if he said he does not have powers, since they think he is ‘Wonderful’. He tells Elphaba that they could be a family and that it is all that he has wanted. Elphaba asks if that is why he lied to them, and he states that ‘the truth is not of fact or reason, instead just what everyone agrees on.’ Glinda and the Wizard of Oz state that Elphaba could be wonderful if she joins them. Glinda says that she and Elphaba could be unlimited, referencing “Defying Gravity” from the first movie. Glinda, the Wizard, and Elphaba have a whole part where they dance the entire time.
No Good Deed – Elphaba is trying to cast a spell before Fiyero dies. She sings about how ‘no good deed goes unpunished’. She sees a vision of the people who have died or lost their voice. She then promises to never do a good deed again.
For Good – Elphaba sings about how she is limited and how it is now up to Glinda to get the Wizard out of Oz. Glinda talks about how people come into other’s lives for a reason and that she doesn’t know if that is true, but she knows that she is who she is today because of Elphaba. Elphaba talks about how they might not meet again in this lifetime, but so much of her is made of what she has learned from Glinda. Finally, Elphaba and Glinda sing about how they have been changed for good because of each other.
Conclusion (Does it come close to Wicked?)
Jackson Doll’s Thoughts
So, does Wicked: For Good live up to Wicked? Short answer: It’s complicated in my eyes. Wicked was a great start to the story of Glinda and Elphaba, and it had better music, scenes, and a better storyline than its highly anticipated sequel. But that doesn’t mean Wicked: For Good was bad. Wicked: For Good is the conclusion this story needed, with a bittersweet ending, opening up doors to other worlds outside of Oz. Without this movie, audiences would be left on edge as to what happens to Elphaba after the first movie and how this all ties directly to The Wizard of Oz. With that being said, I was slightly disappointed by the second movie, just because of how good and exciting the first one was, especially in the last few scenes. But that’s not necessarily Wicked’s fault. Second acts of musicals are usually perceived as the worst of the two acts, and there was no saving Wicked from that with such a strong first movie/act. Nothing musical from either Wicked movie will ever top Cynthia Erivo’s Defying Gravity ending from the first movie, which I believe is one of the best musical songs ever written. Even though I do have some criticisms of the second movie, I think that it’s still a great movie that you should absolutely watch if you’re a fan of the Oz universe. Cynthia and Ariana’s acting is on point as usual, and the film has exciting moments scattered throughout. Wicked: For Good closes out the backstories of some of our favorite characters invented by L. Frank Baum 125 years ago, but it’s just overshadowed by its amazing predecessor.
Briy Moody’s Thoughts
I personally liked Wicked: For Good much more than the first movie. I didn’t really enjoy the first one, mostly because Glinda always made me mad with the way she acted. I feel like this movie has more information about what is happening in the land of Oz and how it is all going down at once. I also like the costumes much better than the first movie because I feel like the costume designers put much more work into them than the first. I really loved getting the backstory of the Wizard of Oz characters and seeing how they work through that throughout the movie. I admired how they worked together to solve each other’s problems because many life lessons can be learned from that.

I went to Wicked: For Good with my friends, and we agree that even though it wasn’t as good as the first one, it was a heart-felt ending and worth watching. Doll made a great point when he said that it was the conclusion the story needed. However, I loved the costuming of the second movie and For Good (the song) made me cry.

I don’t think Wicked: For Good lives up to its predecessor. Even though the movie was okay for the most part it simply just wasn’t as good as the first.

I agree with Jackson that nothing can really top ‘Defying Gravity’ from the first movie, but seeing the story finally connect to The Wizard of Oz was so cool. The costumes for Glinda and Elphaba were amazing

I actually went to see Wicked for good a few days ago at the movies and it was actually pretty good. It had many moments of suspense, humor, and sadness. I would recommend watching it if you watched the first one. Me and my family had a great time.

I haven’t watched the movie yet but I have listened to some of the songs for it, I really liked how they brought back the original actors for their respective characters to sing in one of the many song!
