Joining clubs and activities could be very important to many students; it could help with their future, like college, or even to get a job. If you’re looking to join a club/activities but don’t know what, then you’re in luck because I have interviewed students who are in clubs/activities that have shared their experience that could possibly help you choose what kind of club you may want to join.
Paola Hernandez, who is a freshman, said she joined HOSA. Paola has said, “I joined HOSA because it teaches me a lot about the medical field and because it looks good on my application for college.” Paola talks about the club being important to her because “I’ve made a lot of friends in that club and I also love helping out people.”
Bethany Turner, who is part of the Shelf CareBook Club and is a junior, said that the reason she joined the book club is “I’m always at the library, and I read a lot, and the club gives me an opportunity to widen my reading horizons.” Bethany has said she joined the club in her sophomore year and she plans on staying for her senior year. She also explains what their meetings are like, “Meetings are once a month, and we vote on a book, then we’ll meet that next month and discuss it, then the next month we’ll read the other half of the book and discuss it.” Bethany has also said, “The club is important to me because a lot of people in there are important to me, and I’ve been reading since I was young, so it’s fun to meet people who also love to read.”
Speaking about the book club, here is what one of the sponsor’s shelf care of the book club Ms. Cooper had to say, “The club is important because a lot of if it is because we all share our love of books and stories we read, we read the same book together and then we get to discuss it and talk about what we thought of it and sort of enjoy that general just discussing literature. When students join this club, it’s because they love to read a variety of books and have a safe space to be able to discuss their thoughts on some sort of thing. This club could help students outside of school because a lot of students are required to read a lot of things outside of their classes in college. For us, we typically meet once a month, and we all gather together and share what we read so far. Ms. Cook, the other sponsor, will ask questions to the students about their book, then once the book is done, the students will have a vote on what book they should read next.” If you’re interested in joining the book club, you can always go to the library and talk to either Ms. Cooper or Ms. Cook, and they can add you to their Schoology group, and they will send messages.
Colette Velasquez, who is a junior, is part of the wrestling sports team and one of the managers for both the girls’ and boys’ teams. Colette explained why she joined the team, “I wanted to go back to a sport I used to do, and just be involved and more active with the school.” Colette finds the sport important to her because of all the friendships she has made, and she hopes to stay till her senior year. Colette has also said how being the manager will help her outside of school, “This will definitely help me from outside of school because it can teach me more about life experiences by helping out with people and being more responsible, it can also help me in my college applications.”
Maria Orellana, a junior, is part of the nail tech class, and she shared one of the memorable moments she had experienced during her time there. “One memorable thing I experienced there was when I first got to do my first hand set with acrylic for the first time.” She also shared how nail tech will help her outside of school, “This club will help me outside of school because by taking classes and earning my diploma, I could build my own business out of school where I would do what I learned in nail tech.” Maria said she has been in that club for two years and she plans not to stay there for next year because she wants try a different club so she can get the experience of a different atmosphere and learn more things.
