At OHS, many boys and girls have very particular morning routines. Whether it’s them doing their makeup, hair, skincare, eating breakfast, and so much more. Some students and staff have easy routines and some have a variety of steps including their morning routine that are a must need. People may take hours to get ready while some only take ten to 30 minutes. Morning routines are more than just a tasks to be checked off before starting the day. They serve as a powerful tool for mental, emotional, and physical well-being. A structured morning routine can relieve stress depending on how they wake up and what mood they have, being more productive throughout their day, and set a good and positive tone.
People naturally take longer to get ready in the morning due to their personal habits or preferences. For example, someone might enjoy taking a longer shower, spending extra time on skincare, doing their hair routine, or preparing a nutritious breakfast. “I wake up at 6 in the morning and leave at 7:42. I have five steps, I get up, brush my teeth, wash my face, get dressed, style my curly hair, do my makeup, and finally get snacks for school. I wanna add eating breakfast to my morning routine so I feel more energetic. The most used item in my routine is my hair products and my hair takes me the most time, I recommend the Camille Rose Natural Curl because it makes my curls bounce.” said freshman, Yasmine Alfaro. As Yasmin said, she takes the longest doing her hair. Some students have their routines very particular
Some students have elaborate morning routines that involve multiple steps or tasks. Students with extensive makeup routines or complex breakfast routines may take longer to get ready in the morning.”I start my morning routine as soon as I wake up, which is around 6:30-7:00. I first pick out what I’m going to wear and then cleanse my face, I use Cerave facial cleaner and it really cleared my face. Then I start by either curling or straightening my hair. After, I do my makeup which is usually my full face and my favorite product is probably my Born This Way concealer! Finally, I get dressed and I start walking to school,” said freshman, Genesis Revolorio.
Some students have elaborate makeup routines that involve multiple steps, such as skincare, foundation, concealer, contouring, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, blush, and lipstick. Each step requires precision and attention to detail, contributing to the overall length of the makeup routine. Which may lead to taking a lot of time in the morning.”I wake up around 7 every morning, I start by going to brush my teeth and wash my face, after I go back to my room and I change into my outfit I pick out every night before I go to sleep, Then I sit down on my vanity and I start doing my makeup which are 11 steps, one of my favorite makeup products are my Fit Me loose powder because it leaves my makeup looking really soft and I really recommend it. After I am done with my makeup I pack up my computer, water and sometimes some snacks, finally I leave to go to my bus,” said freshman Ashley Carranza
Some people have very simple morning routines and may want to add things to it. “It takes me an hour to get ready in the morning. Every morning I pray, make my bed, shower, I do my skincare, brush my teeth, put cologne on and I go downstairs and turn on all the cars and finally I get my bag and water ready. I could add stretching to my everyday morning routine,” said junior Derek Vargas. As Derek said, by incorporating one or two new habits into your morning routine and gradually add more over time as you build a more sustainable routine.
Mornings are often a time crunch for students, especially if they have extracurricular activities. With a limited amount of time before they need to leave for school, students may feel pressured to complete tasks quickly, leading to rushed or uncompleted work.” It takes me 30-60 minutes to get ready. I usually start with brushing my teeth, doing my skincare, change, my makeup, pack everything and then leave. Catching up with work before I leave takes the longest and I wish I had more time in the morning.” said senior, Melanie Estrada.
Overall, the length of a person’s morning routine can vary based on students preferences and habits. Students can find ways to complete tasks, prioritize things, and minimize distractions that can help make their morning routine more efficient.
