On Saturday, May 4th, OHS Guitar held ‘Rock Fest, in the OHS auditorium. “Rock Fest is a concert performed by all guitar groups here at Osbourn High School,” said Mrs. Rubach. Rock Fest this year consisted of 16 songs. Some of these were even performed in different languages or in smaller groups.
There is definitely a lot of planning and aspects that go into creating a concert. “I start by asking the classes who would be comfortable with special parts like singing, playing the guitar, or bass. From there, I try to pick songs that fit each class’s needs,” said Mrs. Rubach.
To be completely ready for a concert, months of practicing go into it. “We spend months practicing and learning our parts. In class, we set up a fake stage with instruments, amps, and a microphone for the singers. The week of the big show, we move everything to the real stage in the auditorium for our dress rehearsal. We add a professional drummer, sound design engineer, and special lights. Finally, the show night is here and we have a blast performing for our friends and family,” said Mrs. Rubach.
Beginning Guitar was up first on stage. They performed a total of three songs. The first song they performed was a mash-up of Monsters by Rihanna, and Counting Stars by One Republic. The second song they performed was Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen. The third and final song they performed was Lighterless by Microwave.

There were definitely a lot of things to enjoy from Rock Fest. “I really enjoyed watching Rock Fest. They had lots of songs, and all of them were good. They even had songs in different languages, like Spanish and Filipino. It was really nice how they were so diverse and how they let other students with different cultures play. I really enjoyed their overall sound. It was a really great experience and I wish I could go again”, said freshman Kamila Ulloa.
Some people even liked the atmosphere. “I liked the energy the people in the audience were giving the performers since it was more like a rock concert a lot of people were clapping along and using their flashlights on their phones to hype up the performers,” said freshman Cindy Hernandez.
