In this day in age with modern technology, it can be very easy for a whole generation to decide whether to love or hate an artist as a whole. Well, what if one generation all concluded that Tyler the Creator is their all-time favorite? Tyler Gregory started his music career as a rapper and producer right around 2010 and has released 7 albums since then, which all have been notoriously adored and appreciated by the fan base. He can also be known for his lovable and humorous personality aside from his music career, which can be shown in his prank-related TV show “Loiter Squad” and in interviews with people such as Nardwuar the Human Serviette. All that aside, what makes Tyler the creator so loved? What do people find appealing about him?

Some seem to like the lyricist side of his artistry. Tyler recently has made music with lyrics speaking about relationship ups and downs, and how they can make one feel. “I can connect to “Answer” because I don’t have a relationship with my dad,” said freshman Cash Davis.

“Well, when I first heard his music, I looked into the lyrics a little more, and I just found them really relatable. It’s just the type of music he makes it just has a style to it and I really like that style so then I started to listen to him more,” said freshman Keith Tate.

It seems like some listeners overall just love Tyler’s music because they know that they’re not alone. People love listening to Tyler’s songs that can perfectly depict their struggles because it can make them feel comforted and his music can romanticize that melancholic feeling. I mentioned earlier that some people prefer listening to Tyler’s sad music because those songs that sing about the same issues that they are dealing with can give that person a sensation of self-awareness, or can help them process how they feel. And others have been stuck in their feelings for so long that they no longer bother getting out of them, and instead seek comfort in their sorrows by listening to melancholic music like Tyler’s.

Even though some listen to Tyler the Creator’s music for the relatable side, others have enjoyed his music for the overall sound and the idea of his music, and similar to that, others just appreciate him a lot for shaping and influencing music now.

“Tyler the Creator is immaculate, like the songs he’s made like “Wolf” have like a whole story to them, including “Cherry Bomb” as well I just think it is very good. I also enjoy how his latest album “Call Me If You Get Lost,” seems to have some sort of story to it, and showed a bunch of different personalities he had in the previous albums, which I thought was pretty nice,” said ex-Manassas resident, Sahl Shafi.

Like the majority of people, people obviously love listening to music that sounds good to them and Tyler is an amazing example of great music judging by the fact he has nearly 30 million monthly listeners on Spotify and has won numerous music awards. Tyler clearly puts effort into his music and he does a different thing each time he releases music, so he’s clearly great at what he does. Although his older music went for an edgier and more violent approach, a lot of people can agree that his music has a very smooth and tranquil feel now, which fans adore. Unlike other pop/rap artists, he adds a jazz-like beat to his music, which is both unique and appears relaxing and comforting to fans. “There’s definitely a tolerance to jazz beats now, more than there was ten years ago.  But now it’s more appreciated because Tyler has incorporated that,” said freshman Cash Davis.

Although some people very much enjoy his music side, others entirely ignore that and instead love Tyler for himself outside of his art.” I do, he’s a very silly person, and he’s really quirky,” said freshman, Keith Tate.

“I’ve watched some interviews about him and he’s really cool yeah,” said freshman, Cash Davis.

Folks love to be around people with humorous personalities no matter what, so having your favorite artist have an entertaining character aside from music can make any fan love their favorite artist. They appear more lovable to fans. In this case, Tyler the Creator is a prime example of a witty music artist, considering his interviews, videos, and even a whole TV show based on comedy sketches and playing pranks with other hilarious artists. “Oh yeah, Tyler the creator is really funny. I know that he has done TV shows where he does pranks on people and it was called “Loiter Squad“- That stuff was really funny, That promotional thing too where they made waffles, Yea that was really funny;  he’s a funny guy,” said ex-Manassas resident, Sahl Shafi.

Tyler the Creator seems to stay quiet after releasing an album, other than doing a couple of concerts. Recently Tyler has just been doing concerts promoting his latest album “Call Me If You Get Lost.”  Rumor has it he going to show up at Camp Flaw Gnaw Carnival, along with other music artists, to perform some of their own songs in November.
