It’s almost the end of the year, which means juniors are officially becoming seniors next year. It’s a pretty big change, and everyone has different feelings about it. I have interviewed some juniors to find out how they feel about their last year of high school.
When asking juniors how they feel about becoming seniors, a lot of them say it feels weird because time has flown by. “It feels crazy that I am becoming a senior because it feels like I just started high school, and the fact that it’s about to end is crazy,” said Jaselyn Artiga-Martin. Nevaeh Ball also said that the feeling of becoming a senior is bittersweet. “On one hand, I’m excited to be done with high school, but I also wish I could stay here for a bit longer.”
As they start to look forward to their last year here in Osbourn, juniors are mostly excited about the fun events seniors get to do here at OHS. Karen Gonzalez said, “Senior backpacks are what I’m so excited for because they’ll help me realize how much I’ve grown up.”
Other student are most excited for the events that happened throughout their senior year. Jaselyn said she is mostly looking forward to senior activities, like the senior sunset/sunrise. For Nevaeh, the biggest thing is just being able to leave. “I’m mostly excited for graduation, I can’t wait to go out into college and explore life outside of high school and such.”
Before leaving high school, juniors usually set a goal for their final year. “My goal is mainly to pass my classes and graduate on time and get into college,” said Jaselyn. She wants to make sure she enjoys the time left. “I also don’t want to take senior year for granted because it’s my last high school year,” she continued.
Karen said, “I want to see my 9th-grade math teacher because she had such a great impact on my middle school years. I want to show my appreciation to her.”
Obviously, being a senior means you finally don’t have to be a junior anymore, which literally everyone is happy about. Junior year is basically known here at OHS for the writing SOL, which most people dislike. One thing basically everyone agreed on is that they won’t miss it at all. “I won’t miss the writing SOL,” said Jaselyn. “Something I won’t miss is the stress of making sure my grades stayed up and the stress of my writing SOL,” said Karen. “Oh yeah, I won’t be missing the writing SOL at all,” said Neveah. It’s pretty clear that the juniors won’t be missing the writing SOL at all next year.
Once the juniors finally finish senior year, a bunch of students already know what they’re doing next. Karen said, “The main college is definitely NOVA for at least 2 years, but also possibly GMU to get my 4 years to get into NICU nursing.”

Even though I myself am not a junior, I do have a friend that is a junior. I am not ready for her to become a senior and graduate next year.

I am also a junior, and it feels so bittersweet to be a senior so soon. It feels like just yesterday that I started highschool, and 2027 felt so far away. I will probably be going to NOVA for at least two years to finish the general education undergraduate program, and by then, I’ll go to GMU to earn my degree in law, which is what I’m leaning to for what I’ll pursue in the future. Also, as much as I will miss highschool, I can’t wait to graduate!
