On March 31st, the trailer for the Backrooms movie was released. This release sparked a lot of interest from horror fans. Many debated if the movie is going to be good, if the movie is long enough, if the movie is going to be scary enough, etc. There are a lot of signs that lead to the conclusion that the movie will be accurate and worth watching. Not only is the movie an A24 partnership, but it is also being directed by Kane Parsons, the creator of a Backrooms YouTube series, which ensures that the movie is most likely going to be accurate to the lore.

For those unaware of what the Backrooms are, the Backrooms is an internet Creepypasta that follows the aesthetic of liminal space (large, empty or abandoned spaces that appear eerie). The Backrooms originated from a thread on a website, and later on, people on the internet expanded the concept of it. They introduced levels and entities into the concept, which made it even more creepy.

The Backrooms concept was very popular even before the production of the movie. Even those who weren’t aware or interested in the “lore” still knew what the Backrooms were.  Sophomore Aisha Kamara stated, “I am familiar with the Backrooms because I played games about it on my friend’s computer and have been obsessed ever since.” Freshman Gabriella Madison also said, “I knew about the Backrooms before hearing about the movie. It used to be super popular around 2022. I think this movie will be exciting, and it has a lot of expectations to live up to. The trailer also looked very promising to me.” The fact that a lot of people were interested in the Creepypasta before hearing about the movie most likely means that this movie will do very well, in terms of box office performance and reviews.

On the topic of theaters, the Backrooms movie would be the ideal movie to watch in theaters. Lanna Nguyen-Dang, a freshman at Meridian High School, says, “I think this is the kind of movie you should watch in theaters. It’s kind of an out-of-body experience, and being in a theater heightens it.” Watching this movie in theaters with a dark setting, loud speakers, and a large screen would make the movie feel more eerie and unsettling, which is the goal for a good horror movie, let alone an A24 horror movie.

In order for the experience in theaters to actually be good, the movie itself has to be pretty promising. Many could argue that the Backrooms movie seems worth watching. Whether it be based on the trailer or past knowledge of the Backrooms lore. Sophomore Aisha Kamara commented, “I’m really excited for the Backrooms movie because even though I have always loved horror movies. I love how this creepypasta is coming to life and how the trailer is so accurate to the games and fandom so far!” Freshman Ngoc Le also said, “I’m interested in watching the movie, based on the suspense shown in the trailer.” Everything leading up to the movie has set a high standard for viewers and fans.
