There are many students who already have an idea of where they would like to go after high school, but there are some students who are still considering what college they would want to attend, or they probably have no idea what they want to do. I have interviewed three juniors and one senior, who know or are considering what they would want to do after high school.
Riley Diaz, who is a junior, said she is considering going to the University of North Carolina because she wants to be near an ocean, which is actually useful because she wants to major in Marine Biology. Riley Diaz said she is really looking for in a college is a really supportive community.
Colette Velazquez, who is a junior, has stated that “Right now I’m considering being at NOVA for one year and transferring to UVA, University of Virginia.” Colette Velasquez also said she wanted to major in nursing because she loves to see people smile and wants to help many people.
NOVA is a reliable community college to consider, because not only is it easy to get into as long as you have a high school diploma, but it is also a good option because it has so many academic opportunities, especially for those who don’t know where or what major they want to pursue, because NOVA has a wide variety of programs.
Daeden Brown, who is also a junior, said she would want to stay in college for four years, and she would want to major in English. Daeden Brown said she is mainly looking into Old Dominion University. She also said what she is looking for in a college. “I want a good environment, and I also want to go to a college that has a high graduation rate because that’s really important for me to graduate.”
Hertz, who is a senior, said, “Right now, Virginia Tech is my main college choice, but I also enjoy visiting UVA and William & Mary.” Hertz has also stated, “The major I want to take is architecture because I’m interested in the arts and I’m also good at math and science.” Hertz has said she doesn’t really want to go to a college far away from her family, but also not close, so she would want to be in the middle.
Ms. Vish is one of the teachers in the college and career center, said that GeorgeĀ Mason University, Virginia Tech, NOVA, and UVA are the top schools that Osbourn students ask about. Ms. Vish said that these colleges are very popular among students because they are in-state schools and because those colleges offer mainly what students want as their major.
George Mason University is considered a high-quality college because it’s known for its strong career outcomes. George Mason also has a large number of academic programs, and it also offers good scholarships. George Mason also allows students in OHS who have a good GPA to be accepted without having to apply.
Virginia Tech is a comprehensive university, especially for those who are interested in high-ranked engineering programs, or programs in business, science, and architecture.
UVA is very popular and it is especially known to be a prestigious college since it’s a top-tier public University with strong academic programs and for its historical significance.
To sum it all up, there are many options for colleges and majors. If you don’t have any idea where you want to go after high school, it is totally okay. But it is best to be prepared. And if you do have a college in mind you want to go to, it is also best to have a second option just in case. There are many good colleges to learn about; you just need to do the research. Ms. Vish said, “We are available to help you in the college and career center anytime. Just email us on Schoololgy and we can set up a date and time.”

Though I haven’t chosen any specific major or college for my future I believe I’ll end up being in a college that specializes in IT. Of course my major will also be IT related.
