On August 12, 2025, the Class of 2029 walked through the doors of Osbourn High School for the very first time as ninth graders/freshmen, ready to begin their high school journey. For many, it was a mix of emotions; some students felt excited about the new experiences ahead, looking forward to making new friends, joining clubs, joining sports, and discovering their favorite subjects. Others felt nervous or scared, worried about fitting in or handling the challenges that high school might bring. It was a big step, leaving behind middle school and stepping into a whole new chapter. This day marked the beginning of an important chapter, full of opportunities for growth, learning, and making memories that would last for years to come. Despite the different feelings each student had, everyone wanted to have a good and happy time in high school.
Katie Ho tells us her first impression of high school: “I was thinking about how big the school was and that it’s pretty clean, and also how there are more people here than at middle school.” Entering high school for the very first time can bring up many feelings, such as stress and excitement, so navigating through a new and bigger building can seem like a challenging task. Samantha Zacatales shared,” I got a little lost at first, but after the first few days, I was fine and got used to the layout of the school.”
While experiencing your first day at high school, you might also see some familiarity. Gabriella Dominguez Reyes said, “I saw many familiar faces, and the way Osbourn handles things is very similar to Metz.”
“I really like how we have more freedom, and I get to see my friends every single day,” said Diogo Ferreira. Meanwhile, Allyson Fernandez gives us a different perspective. “I don’t like going to the other building for classes because we don’t have much time to get there. They should make the transitioning time longer to get to class on time.”
A few weeks later, the freshmen felt more comfortable at their new school. They learned where their classes were and what to do each day. Some found out about clubs and sports they could join, and others found new subjects they liked. High school was starting to feel like home. Marlene Ortiz said, “ I like Osbourn High School because it is different from middle school.” She thinks that high school gives students more freedom to make their own choices and do things independently. This freedom makes her feel more comfortable and happy at school. She believes that this is one of the best things about going to Osbourn High School.
Even though she started a new chapter in her life, she will always remember the great memories in middle school and will always have them in her heart. Another thing Marlene Ortiz said was, “I’m liking freshman year, but I’m stressed about grades, getting to class on time, but I’m trying my best.” High school sounds fun, but it can also be stressful and challenging. However, as long as you put in your best effort, you will be fine. Always remember to ask for help because your teachers are always there for you!
Marlene Ortiz gave good advice for high school. She said, “Try your best in high school and just focus on yourself and not others.” She means that it’s important to work hard and pay attention to your own goals instead of worrying about what other people are doing. When you do your best, it will help you have a good future and be true to who you are. Sometimes, you might lose some friends because you are focused on yourself, but that’s okay. You can always make new friends who understand and support you. Marlene’s advice helps remind us that working hard and being yourself are very important in high school.
Estella Mendoza Funes said, “Some of my classes are easy and some are hard, but as long as I do my work, I will be fine.” She is working hard on her grades because she wants to join a sport at school and have a successful future. She also said, “As long as you’re not bothering anyone, you will be fine. Be nice to people and respect them, especially your teachers!” This means it’s important to be kind to everyone around you and to treat people the way you want to be treated. Respecting your teachers is very important because they are there to help you learn and succeed. When you are polite and respectful, it makes school a better place for you and for others. Following this advice can help you make friends and have a good experience in high school.
The Class of 2029 is getting used to life at Osbourn. Every day, they are making new friends and growing both in school and as people. With help from their teachers, friends, and family, they are prepared to handle any challenges. Their high school journey is just starting, and with good advice from students, they will do great.
We wish the class of 2029 a future full of success, learning, and great memories at Osbourn High School.

I remember being nervous on my first few days of 9th grade, but after a while, I got used to it. I like high school a lot more than middle school, because you have a lot more freedom here, and there are more people you can interact and become friends with.

Reading this article while being a freshman is amazing because it talks about our experiences as students, as ninth graders finding our way into high school it was hard finding classes going up down left and right. the struggles with beating in classes without your friends and even students form higher grade’s.

High School is defintently different than Middle school! More work , different classes. I feel if I just focus on one subject at a time and really pay attention to my teachers and my work I’ll be fine . Im very excited for my next few years at Osbourn.

As a freshman, high school doesn’t seem any different than middle school just a continuation with just as hard classes.

I honestly loved the advice that was given because usually everyone thinks that high school is super scary but it isn’t that bad. Everyone should take some of the advice said because I think they are beneficial to your high school experience.

As a freshman myself, Mendoza Funes is right when she says as long as you do your work you’ll be fine. I also agree with Fernandez, we don’t have a lot of time to get to the JLC.

I hope Class of 2029 has an amazing year and that they enjoy the rest of their 4 years here. Transitioning from middle school to high school is a big change in life, but once you get used to the change, you will actually enjoy high school a lot.

I think this article shows how freshmen are adjusting to high school and finding their way around. I like how the students gave advice because it makes starting high school seem less scary.

I really liked this article. It’s cool to see how the freshmen are feeling a mix of nerves and excitement is totally normal. I think Marlene’s advice about focusing on yourself and doing your best is super real. High school can be tough, but with good friends and teachers around, it sounds like the Class of 2029 is gonna do great.

I like how this article shows different freshmen perspectives, it feels relatable. What was the most surprising thing you learned while interviewing them? I remember being nervous on my first day too, but after a week it felt normal.
