It’s been more than 4 years since rapper Playboi Carti released his last album Whole Lotta Red, and ever since, we haven’t gotten another album from him until March 14, 2025. He officially released his third album MUSIC. Despite the album cover saying I AM MUSIC, it is more commonly known as MUSIC on all music streaming platforms.
Everyone on social media was waiting patiently for it to release on midnight like all other albums would release at the time, but it was delayed for 3 hours and was finally released at 3:00 AM in the morning.
The 30-track album contains 9 features; Travis Scott and Kendrick Lamar are the features who appear in more songs, with 5 and 3, respectively. DJ Swamp Izzo was also featured in almost every song, shouting his own name repeatedly. Which was annoying to hear every time, and I knew everyone who listened to that didn’t like it either.
These are the Top 5 best songs I chose from Playboi Carti’s MUSIC. The rest of the songs that are not listed may be songs I didn’t like or didn’t think it had potential.
1. Radar
This song, while showcasing his signature sound, has drawn a mix of reactions from the rapper’s listeners, some of them finding it to be a strong entry in his discography, while others find it to be underwhelming and lacking direction. The track produced by Metro Boomin had some soft drumbeats, and it sounded very energetic, especially when his vocals were added. This is one of the best tracks from the album, despite being 1 minute and 47 seconds long.
Rating: 10/10
2. Rather Lie
The atmosphere is very lush, immediately grabbing the listener’s attention as it builds into a laid-back, bass-heavy rhythm. The contrast between The Weeknd’s soulful vocals and Carti’s braggadocious energy mixes to create a unique piece that stands out in the rapper’s discography. It felt like a rhythm and blues track, but it had some of Carti’s rapping later during the song. The Weeknd could’ve sung more verses, but it is still perfect as it is now. As for production, I really like how the beat went and how it was perfectly timed, and a synth-like melody.
Rating: 9.5/10
3. Crank
This track in particular is a pure showcase of Playboi Carti’s signature sound, blending aggression with style in a way that keeps his audience engaged and energized. The track’s production, atmosphere, and Carti’s delivery are what truly shine for the track. I also liked the melody that sounded like an electric guitar, which went on for the entire song, which was very interesting to hear. As well as some lyrics with my favorite line being “Slow it up, ’cause you got a free throw”. Overall, it is still a good song I would listen to every single time I hear it.
Rating: 9/10
4. Evil Jordan
Evil J0rdan met with lots of mixed opinions. It was leaked with a different version that had an electric guitar melody like CRANK almost a year ago, but still uses the same vocals from the original version pasted onto the new version. While most people found this track to be one of the weaker tracks on the album, the track is more of a vibe than a lyrical statement, fitting well into the rapper’s chaotic world but not offering much of this vibe, particularly. If this song hadn’t leaked just months before, it would’ve been ranked higher. This song is still a great track, and as long as the original was leaked, the new version of this song is alright.
Rating: 8/10
5. Jumpin
This song, which featured Lil Uzi Vert, is actually not bad in vocals. It only lasted a minute and 30 seconds, shorter than Radar. I like how both lyrics and production had a dark, villainous vibe. Speaking of production, it is a hard-hitting track, with booming bass and relentless energy, while the lyrics explore familiar themes in a way that feels both playful and chaotic. Lil Uzi Vert’s vocals were specifically perfect for this song. I wouldn’t listen to this track that much due to the lack of time, as it could’ve been longer with more of Carti’s rap.
Rating: 7.5/10
Lots of Playboi Carti’s listeners were hyped up for the album despite the songs leaking, but after its release, lots of fans, listeners, and critics were disappointed with all of the songs. Even though there are lots of other people who say it’s the best album of the year, I think the album was above average but had lots of minor issues.
My final rating for the album is a 3.5/10, all due to some of the songs being leaked and some lyrics not making sense. Regardless, it is still a great album to listen to, but I wouldn’t really listen to the album more often.
Should this album be considered “Album of the Year?” Let us know in the comments.
