The Grammys is an annual award event that recognizes artist’s music published throughout the year. There are specific categories that artists are nominated for. For example Best New Artist or Song of the Year. There were many trending songs and artists that published this year that were nominated in these categories. So what were some predictions for the winners of these categories, and what were their outcomes?
Starting off with the category Best New Artist with nominees Sabrina Carpenter, Benson Boone, Doechii, RAYE, Chappell Roan, Shaboozey, and Teddy Swims. “I believe that Clairo deserves to win best new artist because she worked very hard on her new album” said 10th grader Nicole Garmendia. The winner of Best New Artist was pop-artist Chappell Roan. “I think that Chappell Roan did also deserve to win because she also worked very hard on her new album” said Garmendia.
The next category is Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with nominees Die With A Smile by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, the boy is mine by Ariana Grande, Brandy, and Monica, us. by Taylor Swift and Gracie Abrams, Guess by Charlies XCX and Billie Eilish, and LEVII’S JEANS by Beyoncé and Post Malone.”I definitely think that Die With A Smile by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars should win,” said 10th grader Kenzie Nguyen. The winner of Best Pop Duo was Die With A Smille by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars. “I am very happy with the outcome of Die With A Smile winning because it was so deserved and was such a good match up of artists,” said Nguyen.
Moving on to the next category which is Record of the year with nominees Fortnight by Taylor Swift, BIRDS OF A FEATHER by Billie Eilish, Not Like Us by Kendrick Lamar, 360 by Charli XCX, Now and Then by The Beatles, Good Luck Babe! by Chappell Roan, Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter, and TEXAS HOLD ‘EM by Beyoncé. “I think either Good Luck Babe! by Chappell Roan or BIRDS OF A FEATHER by Billie EIlish should win Recod of the year,” said 10th grader Estefania Caballero. The winner of Record of the Year was Not Like Us by Kendrick Lamar. “I feel like the other nominees songs were much better than Not Like Us and do not agree with it winning,” said Caballero.
Next up is the category Song of the Year with nominees Not Like Us by Kendrick Lamar, Fortnight by Taylor Swift, BIRDS OF A FEATHER by Billie Eilish, Please, Please, Please by Sabrina Carpenter, A Bar Song (Tipsy) by Shaboozey, Good Luck Babe! by Chappell Roan, Die With A Smile by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, and TEXAS HOLD ‘EM by Beyoncé. “I hope either BIRDS OF A FEATHER by Billie Eilish or Die With A Smile by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars win Song of the Year,” said Lauren Dow-Healey. The winner of Song of the Year was Not Like us by Kendrick Lamar. “Though Not Like Us was popular, I do not think it should have been able to have beaten the other nominees and should not have won,” said Dow-Healey.
The next category is Album of the Year with nominees Cowboy Carter by Beyoncé, New Blue Sun by André 3000, Djesse Vol. 4 by Jacob Collier, Short n’ Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter, The Tortured Poets Department by Taylor Swift, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess by Chappell Roan, Brat by Charli XCX, and Hit Me Hard and Soft by Billie Eilish. “I think Hit Me Hard and Soft by Billie Eilish was definitly the album of the year so I think it should win,” said 10th grader Rose Ilacqua. The winner of Album of the Year was Cowboy Carter by Beyoncé. “I like Beyoncé as an artist but I do not think Cowboy Carter was that impactful of an album to win album of the year,” said Ilacqua. This is an extremely controversial subject throughout social media.
Next up is the category Best Pop Vocal Album with nominees Short n’ Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter, Eternal Sunshine by Ariana Grande, The Tortured Poets Department by Taylor Swift, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess by Chappell Roan, and Hit Me Hard and Soft by Billie Eilish. “I’m ruling out Billie for this category so I think Short N Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter or Eternal Sunshine by Ariana Grande,” said 10th grader Stella Bittenger. The winner of Best Pop Vocal Album was Short n’ Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter. “I think Sabrina Carpenter was best fit to win best pop vocal because her album was very poppy,” said Bittenger.
Lastly is the category Best Country Album with nominees Higher by Chris Stapleton, Deeper Well by Kacey Musgraves, Whirlwind by Lainey Wilson, Cowboy Carter by Beyoncé, and F-1 trillion by Post Malone. “I don’t think Beyoncé will win so I’m guessing Chris Stapleton will win Best Country Album,” said Bittenger. The winner of Best Country album was Cowboy Carter by Beyoncé. “I think Chris Stapleton should have won because he’s an actual country singer unlike Beyoncé and because I feel like the country music I grew up with is not the same country music Beyoncé is singing,” said Bittenger. This was also a very controversial subject on social media.

I can definitely tell why there was controversy on Beyonce winning because there were so many more good artists to pick from. I think that Billie Eilish should have won at least one grammy, but that is just my opinion. I liked how your article was organized and I loved how you even asked students what their predictions were and what their reaction was to when the grammys were announced. Good article!
