Sport movies can be very emotional, funny, based on a true story, or intense. I focused mainly on football movies, and today I will review my top five football movies and describe each one for you, so let’s get started!
1-Safety
The movie Safety is about a young man named Ray going to a Division 1 college to play for the Clemson Tigers. But not only is Ray going there, he goes there and gets in trouble only because of his little brother Fahmarr who gets his way into the university, leading into trouble. But the NCAA has a problem, as later on things get worse for Ray and Fahmarr. The university board and the NCAA cannot support the decision to let Fahmarr get treated like a normal campus student. The movie overall is very good and honestly my top pick for football movies and maybe my favorite movie of all time. The movie came out in 2020 and can be watched on Disney Plus.
2nd-Greater
In this movie, a kid named Brandon Burlsworth has to dream of going to a D1 school to play for the Arkansas Razorbacks. He tries his hardest to get in, but as time goes by and he reaches the end of his high school career, he realizes he may not get a scholarship. Burlsworth enrolls at the University of Arkansas, and he attempts to be a walk-on. Because he is severely overweight and needs to lose pounds and gain height, Burlsworth tries to reach a great beyond point. I love this movie a lot as well. The movie’s plot is very nice and it’s pretty emotional too and I recommend you watch it. The movie came out in 2016 and can be watched everywhere like YouTube, Sling TV, Peacock, and Amazon Prime.
3rd-The Blind Side
The Blind Side is a movie that gets your emotions up. The movie is about a kid named Michael Oher who had a rough childhood. Oher tries his best to succeed in sports, as he is not an athlete. He finds success in playing football and ends up being adopted by a new family. The movie has many ups and downs with emotion and eventually, Oher goes to college to play for the Ole Miss Rebels due to pressure from his new family. The movie is most definitely in the top 3 for the plot and the way the movie plays out. Do you want a long one? This is one for you with the time being 2 hours and 6 minutes. The movie came out in 2009 and can be watched on YouTube, Amazon Prime, and Apple TV.
4-My All American:
My All American is a movie where a young man named Freddie Steinmark wants to go play college football at Notre Dame, but the college never gives him a chance because of his size. Steinmark is a very athletic man who can do it all, he just does not have the size. He later goes to Texas where the University of Texas gives Steinmark a college tour to see the facility. The head coach is so impressed with his performance and film that he offers him a scholarship to play for the University of Texas. The movie gets really sad and messes with your emotions, but is a highly recommended to watch. The movie can be watched on Netflix, YouTube, The CW, and Sling TV.
5th-Waterboy:
One of the most iconic comedy movies for football films is Adam Sandler’s own Waterboy. The movie is a comedy classic for many, but for people who have not watched it, here is a brief description. The movie is about a kid named Bobby Boucher Jr. (Aka Adam Sandler) and his overprotective mother, Helen. Bobby who never plays football, is known for helping a successful college school as the team’s waterboy. He later on gets removed from the team and goes on to join another team, but later in the film, Bobby gets angry at someone for messing with him and the coaches look and see Bobby mess up the guy for bothering him. This gives the coach at Bobby’s new college an idea to move Bobby to linebacker, which becomes the start of Bobby’s football career. The movie is a personal favorite for a good laugh and is honestly a great movie to watch. The movie came out in 1998 it can be watched on YouTube, Sling TV, Disney Plus, Hulu, FuboTV.

I haven’t watched any of these movies but I might now watch them! I think The Blind Side would be my favorite because it shows the main characters backstory which plays with the audience’s emotions. I love when movies do flashbacks to childhood before they actually get to the main topic of the movie. Good job on the article!

I really like Remember the Titans because it takes place at a school in Virginia. It’s really surreal seeing it on the big screen.
