The Osbourn 2024-2025 Volleyball season has started! Our school’s Volleyball team’s first game was August 28th against Rock Ridge High School which put the season into play. Although we have said goodbye to our Varsity seniors from last year, we have our returning players along with the class of 2028 freshmen. Volleyball is an enjoyable sport to play and watch. For Junior Varsity, the game starts off with three sets and whoever wins the most out of the three determines the winner. For Varsity, the winner is the best out of five sets. Our JV and Varsity teams practice hard during their 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. practices. So what can spectators in the bleachers expect from our team this season?
Our Junior Varsity and Varsity team individual players have their different skills, techniques, and strengths that all contribute to the team as a whole. Some may even play for a club or league team. For example, keeping the team positive throughout the game provides the team with motivation to go for the win. “I think my strength is keeping the team positive,” said sophomore Adrianna Willard. Other players may focus more on refining their specific skills to contribute to the team. “I think I’m good at reading when I should hit the ball,” said sophomore Daviana Vidal. Everyone has a part to play for the team to work effectively and get the win.
Before Junior Varsity and Varsity games begin, the team usually runs onto the court and does their warm-ups. But players also have their own things they do to be match-ready. “I prepare myself by stretching and listening to music to calm myself,” said junior Ashley Fabian Flores.”I prepare myself for a game by taking practice the day before really seriously and not messing around and if I make mistakes I take the time to fix them for a game. I also make sure to get enough sleep and eat a good meal for game day,” said sophomore Cailynn White.
During the volleyball games, the bleachers are filled with parents, students, and the opposing school’s attendees. One section of the bleachers is the student section. Most students do cheers or chants for our team sitting here. Some students watching the matches have noticed their teamwork. “I am most excited about the new players and old players and how they will be able to connect and work with each other,” said sophomore Angel Chagolla. Students are also excited about the games because they themselves are volleyball enthusiasts. “I think I am most excited to just watch the team progress and see all of the plays they are going to complete,” said sophomore Kenzie Nguyen.

I love the way this article is structured. Even if I’m not a big sports fan myself, it’s interesting to hear about how the volleyball players prepare for their games.

Osbourn’s Volleyball team does not get enough recognition that it deserves. You did really good job on covering the team.

I don’t know much about volleyball but I do know how to kinda play it, its nice to see the team is doing well and I wonder if it will be confusing when Osbourn faces Osbourn park.

I know almost nothing about sports, but this article is amazingly written. I like the way he mentions not just the players, but also the people watching the games and the way he describes the steps players take before games.

I’ve never been a really big fan of volleyball but the passion of the players in it and their quotes like Angel Chagolla’s more specifically. It’s pretty fulfilling to see people have fun with games that I don’t play.

As someone on the JV team, reading how my teammates describe their great energy and hard work is something I’m glad they’re able to see. Both Adrianna and Caiylnn are wonderful hard workers and help me improve both skill and positivity wise. Even if I’m not on the Varsity team, I also take note of their hard work and their strengths, which give me a group of individuals to look up to. The volleyball team is made of great members, and as a team everyone’s strengths and personality really make the team out of this world.

I love how the team has their own roles in order to help the team win no matter what they are good at. If I could attend the volleyball games, I would but if I have a lot of things to get done, sadly, I won’t. However, I wish the Osbourn Volleyball team the best luck! Go eagles!

I don’t usually attend school events or games unless it’s required or at a different school. I usually attend my cousin’s games, whether it’s club or school and if it’s close to us. I think sports are a good thing to get into, and volleyball seems like a good choice!
