Every year on the second Sunday of May, we have an annual holiday dedicated to mothers. It is celebrated all over the world by most countries, usually in March or May. We honor moms and motherhood all together to appreciate what they’ve done for us. OHS students wanted to share their experiences, ideas, and thoughts about their wonderful moms.
A lot of the time, we never get to recognize the full worth of our mothers effort and the sacrifices they made for us. “I appreciate my mom because she does everything for me and puts me first,” said sophomore Kayla Jimenez. Mothers always try to make time for their kids and give them what they want. “She lets me have my freedom, is kind, and spends a lot of time with me,” said freshman Lauren Dow-Healy.
Students got the idea to give their mothers gifts to show how much they care about them. “I made her a jewelry tray out of clay. Her favorite flower is an iris so I put that on it too,” said freshman Shane McCusker. Gifts can also be quality time that someone gives you as well. “I plan on getting her a bouquet of flowers and making the whole day about her. I want to spend time with her and give her company,” said Jimenez. Jewelry is also a nice gift. “I want to get her a gold Pandora necklace,” said freshman Edgar Ortiz.
The effort that moms give is important because it shows that she cares. “The best thing shes done for me was always being there for me and feeding me every night,” said sophomore Gwendolyn Boles. They might have to take over all together just to keep you safe. “My mom played both roles most of my life and she would do whatever it took to make me happy when I was younger, and now too,” said freshman Graidys Rivera.
I appreciate my mom because she sacrificed everything so that my siblings and I could have a good and fun childhood. She also gave me a good high school experience because she let me go to events with my siblings, friends, and I,” said McCusker.
Wrapping it up, students wanted to give their best memories of their moms growing up. It could’ve been recent, or a while ago. “The best memory of my mom and I was when we went spend the day together to go to the trampoline park and get Cheesecake Factory after. We laughed the whole time and just talked about everything,” said McCusker.
“I remember when her and I went to Florida together and we spent time at the beach. We played tag and had a picnic with just her and I,” said Boles.
“When we used to model together for fashion shows,” said freshman Daviana Vidal.
