Soccer is a sport here at Osbourn kids enjoy to play or even outside of school. Soccer is a sport that kids enjoy playing with family and friends. Some kids try to keep the tradition going and play soccer because their family members play soccer which encourages them to play.  This sport can also be a hobby to distract themselves from things that make them feel happy. Osbourn has its own soccer teams for boys and girls, JV and varsity!

“My whole family plays soccer so I wanted to play too,” said Allison Sorto. Most people like to do sports with the sport their family grew up with. “My family played, My dad and brother,” said Ethan Perez. “I played soccer because it was a sport I liked,” said Luis Gomez.

A lot of people play soccer because their family members have played/are playing which makes them interested because when they have family members also interested in that sport, which gives them a special bond. People also get interested in soccer because they can distract themselves from things and also it makes them happy and competitive with their friends or family. 

Most kids have at least one favorite celebrity soccer player which gives them even more confidence when playing soccer. “I love Messi because I like how he dribbles the ball and can control it,” said Sorto. Leonel Messi is a famous Argentinian Soccer player. “I like Messi because he’s the GOAT,” said Perez. 

Leonel Messi has millions of fans across the globe cheering for him. He is currently playing for Inter Miami but soon in 2026, he will be playing for Argentina in the World Cup. Most kids got interested in soccer during the 2022-2023 World Cup. The World Cup is a game played by multiple teams and a variety of famous soccer players. That time a lot of families got interested in the sport even more.

Most of the people that play soccer have goals and most of them achieve them! “My goal is to play college level soccer, and yeah, I think I can make it,” said Perez. Having confidence in succeeding is a good method. “I honestly don’t have a goal right now but I hope I can improve my soccer skills,” said Sorto. Sometimes it takes time to create a perfect goal for yourself.

“I started playing soccer when I was 5 and stopped playing at like 7; I played soccer because I was interested in the sport,” said Hailey Diaz. 

“I started playing soccer when I was about 6 and then stopped when I was 8 or 9,” said Gomez.

Some kids play at an early age and others start  later. When people play at a young age they usually get attached to the sport and get more interested into it and find it as an everyday hobby. It is a great sport for athletes who like to run around, socialize and even get better at communicating with their teammates. Hopefully these soccer players can try out for JV or varsity in the spring in 2024 and achieve their goals!
