Puss in Boots’ Great Journey Towards The Last Wish

Puss in Boots is a 1697 Italian-French fairy tale. Puss in Boots was an inspiration for other performances like in The Sleeping Beauty where he appeared in the third act. Puss also appears in Dreamworks’ Shrek franchise, the sequels, and the spin-offs. Puss in Boots has been voiced by Antonio Banderas, Eric Bauza, and André Sogliuzzo.

In 2004 we were first introduced to Puss in Boots in Shrek 2 where he was voiced by Antonio Banderas. He was introduced when the father of Princess Fiona hired him to remove Shrek from the picture. Puss met Shrek and Donkey but he was unsuccessful in completing the mission so he plead for mercy and told Shrek why he had that task to fulfill. Then he, alongside Donkey, became Shrek’s partner and helper.

In Shrek, the Third (2007) Puss made his journey with Shrek and Donkey to get Fiona’s cousin to the far far away kingdom so he could become the king, but during their journey Donkey and Puss switch bodies. Donkey and Puss do switch back to their own bodies afterward.

In Shrek Forever After (2010) he’s on another journey, but this time it’s in an alternate universe created by Rumpelstiltskin. In this alternate universe, Puss is a pet of Fiona’s and has gained a lot of weight. Throughout the movie, he realizes Fiona and Shrek have feelings for each other. Puss decides to become friends with Shrek. Once Shrek and Fiona are taken by Rumpelstiltskin, Puss and Donkey are set on a journey to save Shrek and Fiona. He later joined in the battle against Rumpelstiltskin and his companions but once the battle is over, Shrek returns to their real universe where Puss is himself again and is enjoying the birthday party that was started at the beginning of the movie for Shrek and Fiona’s children.

Later on, in 2011 in Puss in Boots, we learn more about his life before Shrek. Puss was abandoned when he was still little and he was in an orphanage. He was adopted by Imelda the caretaker of the orphanage in the town of San Ricardo. Puss became friends with Humpty Dumpty another character that was in the orphanage, who give him the name “Puss” and who he decided to go on adventures with. They found the magic beans and brought them to the Golden Goose. Puss was awarded his iconic boots after performing a heroic act. Humpty Dumpty was a bad influence on Puss and convinced him to rob a bank with him. Puss then, years later, left San Ricardo. Puss must clear his name and is in search of the magic beans, where he crosses paths with Kitty Softpaws and his old friend Humpty Dumpty. The three of them are then on a quest to claim the prize.

After being on so many quests, journeys, and adventures, Puss has finally gone through eight of his nine lives. His now new journey is to find a mythical last wish to get all of his nine lives back. On this journey, he is accompanied by Kitty Softpaws and Perrito, a stray dog.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish was released on December 22 of 2022. Puss was once again voiced by Antonio Banderas. This movie has a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, meaning 97% of those who watched the movie liked it. The movie, like all the other movies, has a villain. In this case, it’s a wolf named Wagner Moura. The movie overall is great if you like Puss’s proud, charming, heroic, and fighting characteristics. People, of course, get to see more of his iconic hat and his iconic boots, but also get to see him experience panic and fear as he realizes that he only has one more life to spend but after the wolf, he had feared. Puss doesn’t only go through a journey, but also a lot of emotions.
