After an anxious wait of the American people on the outcome of the 2024 election, Donald J. Trump was named the victor and will begin his second and final presidency on January 20th 2025. This created mixed reactions across social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and X. For some people, this outcome was concerning, but others are satisfied with it.
So what were the reactions of future voters here at Osbourn?
There is a variety of views and reactions on the victor of this election. Some were surprised that Trump won in the first place. “I was surprised that Kamala lost because hearing everything that my friends talked about, it seemed like she was the more popular candidate,” said 10th grader Lauren Dow-Healey.
“I’m shocked that some people aren’t as empathetic as the younger generation and as accepting to change,” said 10th grader Kenzie Nguyen.
Some were surprised by the shocking statistics of the election, but not by the outcome. “I was surprised that Trump was able to get 7 out of 7 swing states, but I was not surprised by the outcome of the election,” said 11th grader Matthew Whitesell.
Many people have a general hope for the future. “I hope that all the decisions made by our new president are for the better of our country,” said Dow-Healey.
While others have a more focused hope concerning who is in office. “I’m content in knowing that Trump will not be running again,” said Whitesell.
There is a list of goals people have for this presidential term that they would like to see completed. “I would like to see attempts to help climate change. I also hope that we will focus more on stopping gun violence in America, and lastly, that women will be granted their basic human rights again,” said 10th grader Cailynn White.
“I would like to see better immigration policies, the end of many foreign wars, lower inflation rates, and bringing down gas prices,” said Whitesell.
“I think his view on abortion is not aligned with my view on the subject,” said Whitesell.
As we could see during the vote tallying, there was a major difference between party popularity that shocked many people. Some people noticed a shift somewhere throughout the election. “I think there was a shift in the favor of Kamala due to the amount of celebrities and influencers endorsing her,” said Dow-Healey.
Some think there was a differentiation of opinion between different generations that could have caused a shift in favor of either party. “I think the favor of either candidacy depended on the different morals and opinions of both the younger and older generations,” said Nguyen.
While others thought of significant events that took place along the way. “I feel like a lot of things could have led to shifts in the numbers, but the most significant ones I would say would have been when Trump was almost assassinated, Kamala’s many celebrity endorsements, and R.F.K. junior endorsing Trump,” said Whitesell.

The election results are very distressing. I’m genuinely surprised Kamala lost, but hindsight is 20/20, and as someone who’s really into politics and understanding how it works — it makes sense. Really good article, good job on being neutral.

I think the article is good but I don’t care who’s president since both options wasn’t really good yk

I think this article is really well written. It doesn’t take a side of Trump or Kamala.

I thought for sure that Kamala Harris was going to win, and when I woke up and checked the results the morning after the election, I was shocked.

I was not surprised by the results, I wanted Kamala Harris to be the President and this was the second time that a female president nominee was lost by the same president. I think this was very rigged.

I personally view the election as voting for the lesser evil out of the two main candidates but I was shocked at the outcome of this years election. I was watching the whole thing with my mom and she cried when she realized the results and it set in.

I don’t think both options were good, they both were flawed in several ways. I think trump won because the electoral college trusted him more.

I never really cared for either candidates since everyone said one thing about one side, then another about the other. So, I didn’t trust them too much.

Now, I don’t mind who becomes president if they would make America a good place again. Just like Cailynn said, I would hope for Donald Trump to do more to stop gun violence and make women have equal rights to the men.
