When it comes to fashion, plenty of things come to people’s minds. The word fashion in the dictionary means “conventional usage in dress, manners, especially of polite society, or conformity to it. But in my opinion, there is no true definition of fashion itself. I think fashion is what someone wants it to be for them. Everyone should be able to represent themselves on their own when it comes to their style of dressing.
People around our school have plenty of different types of styles, or what they like to wear to school. Some students like to dress comfortably, calmly, or relaxed. They wear items like sweatpants and hoodies or basketball shorts and short-sleeved colored or graphic shirts.
There is also a good amount of people at our school who like to wear flashy, nice, and stand-out types of clothing items. For example jeans, dress shirts, boots, expensive shoes and shirts, things like that.
Luis Argumedu, an 11th grader at our school, described his style. “My jacket is thrifted, my tank top is from Target, my chain and pants are custom, my belt is my Dad’s, and boots are from Depop.”
Jorge Frenco, a 12th grader at our school, favors a more casual look. He likes to wear calmer clothing. “My Crocs are from Journeys, these are thrifted sweatpants, and this is a calm red H and M shirt.”
Adults have their own types of fashion choices. Mr. Pullen, our attendance officer, explained “My shoes came from Rockport, my pants came from Nordstrom Rack, my belt is from Walmart, my button-up from K & G, and my bow tie is from Tommy Hilfiger.” The classy outfit he was wearing was based on the fact he had to go to court.
Speaking of those outfits at OHS being based on things, everyone alongside having their own style, has something or someone that inspires their outfit and fashion choices. Sometimes people get inspired by characters from television shows, or family members.
Luis Argumedu said “I was mainly inspired by Ryuk from the anime show named Death Note.”
Michael Edwards, an English teacher, said “I like the baggy 90’s fashion, so that inspired me today.”
Like I just stated students and adults at OHS have love for different brands and designers. Isaiah Gbana, a 10th grader at OHS said “My favorite brand is Louis Vuitton because of its originality.”
Luis Argumedu, an 11th grader at our school, said “My favorite brand is probably Vivienne Westwood because of her simple yet pure designs.”
Other people like other more intricate and complex designs. “My favorite brand is Coogi short and simple. I really like all the different patterns and colors they work with,” said our attendance officer Mr. Pullen.
So what is your favorite brand or designer? What would you say inspires your outfits, and where do you shop? Tell us in the comments!
