As the 23-24 school year comes to an end, so does freshman year for the class of 2027. Freshmen year may feel intimidating or stressful at first but as the year goes on you’ll learn to enjoy it. Now as summer begins to get closer, the class of 2027 will soon be sophomores, are they excited, nervous, or maybe a little bit of both?
Although freshmen year is one of the best years to try new sports and activities, some students may regret not joining any, “I think I would have joined a club or a sport so I could have made new friends, and all my friends who did a sport seemed to really enjoy it.” said Gabriela Callejas, “I regret not taking my classes more seriously, the fourth marking period with all my classwork and final exams was really hard on me,” said Keila Rich.
When you’re going into freshman year you receive a lot of information from teachers about what it will be like, but how is it in reality from a freshman’s perspective, “One thing I would tell upcoming freshmen is you don’t need a huge friend group to have fun, just be around people who accept you,” said Adrianna Willard.
A lot of people from Osbourn seemed to enjoy their sophomore year, so based off what the class of 2027 has heard what are they most excited for, “I am most excited for trying out for the volleyball team because I was unable to try out this year and I really love to play,” said Kaylee Ngoun, “I’m excited to be an upperclassman on my sports teams because I hope to be a captain for my softball team,” said Lilly Donahue.
During freshman year there are not a whole lot of class options that interest your future career options, meanwhile, sophomore year is when you can begin taking the introduction classes for future careers, “I am most looking forward to Intro to Health and Medical Sciences because I hope to work as a nurse or a doctor for kids one day,” said Lilly Donahue.
Throughout the whole country, many people have different takes on their overall freshman experience, “This year was like a 7/10, I think I should have taken different classes and I wish I had found the friends I made towards the end of the year closer to the beginning of the year,” said Keila Rich. “My freshmen year was around an 8/10, I just wish I had a little bit better teachers for my honors classes,” said Callejas.
Freshman year is a good time to decide what you like and don’t like, and allows you to learn what you want to change for your future, “Next year I am playing volleyball and softball like this year, but I am dropping my art classes because I did not like them or benefit from them,” said Willard.
Overall, the class of 2027 seemed to have little to no regrets regarding their freshman year of high school, but do you have any things you would have done differently? Tell us in the comments!
