They have been presented over 60 awards throughout their careers, they have made over 6 albums, over 50 songs and performed around more than 220 concerts. Their most recent concert and tour was in 2021. Aventura’s music is about love, obsession, anger, sadness, romance, passion and so much more, their music is meant to give you a romantic, danceable feeling. Many of their songs are about possession and destiny, many are about not being able to let go or being so in love. The band officially broke up to pursue their individual careers in music and ended up being some of the most important people in bachata music.
Here are some of the most popular songs by Aventura, as a recap on an ending era.
Cuándo Volverás (When will you return)
This was Aventura’s fisrt ever song. The beginning of the song starts with Romeo Santos (lead singer), acting as a random guy, singing about how he doesn’t why or how his lover ghost him without a warning reason or clue. He feels as he doesn’t deserve the lack of her presence and how all he did was love her. “Si siempre yo te quise” is what he said to prove it, which means “If I’ve always loved you”. He then starts singing, almost in a begging way “¿Cuándo volverás?¿Cuándo volverás? Ay, dime mami, ¿a dónde tú estarás?” which means “When will you come back? Ay, tell me mami, where will you be? and “¿Por qué? ¿Por qué me haces esto mujer?” – “Tell me why, tell me why are you doing this to me woman?” The whole song is talking about how a guy’s girlfriend left him without and word, warning or reason why. The song came out in 1996 and became popular in 1999. The song was made to serve as a debut single from their debut album, Generation Next.
Obsesión ft. Judy Santos (Obsession)
This song was the first song to get the band attention from all over. The song succeeded in getting the attention of many countries, topping many international charts. This song is about the obsession with someone that they can no longer have. A guy who thinks that he in love and care for a girl in a loving way, while the she tries to explain to him that he is not in love but obsessed with her. Judy Santos- “No, no es amor. Lo que tú sientes se llama obsesión. Una ilusión. En tu pensamiento. Que te hace hacer cosas. Así funciona el corazón.” Which in English means “No, it’s not love. What you feel is called obsession. An illusion. In your thoughts. That makes you do things. That’s how the heart works.” The video starts with him calling her at 5 in the morning, explaining that he couldn’t sleep thinking about her beauty. The song expresses the way obsession can take over you and how you can feel while being obsessed. Although it may seem creepy to some and call it delusion, a lot of people can see this as a love song and just see it as a lot of care for someone. The song Obsesion came out in 2002 and was last performed in 2019.
La Boda (The Wedding)
La boda is a song based on the emotions and action one might feel or do, seeing the love of YOUR life fall in love and marry someone else and not you. Not being able to let them go thinking they are YOURS and ONLY YOURS. In the song, it starts with the priest marrying two people, and he gets to the “If anyone objects, speak now or forever hold your peace.” and the ex boyfriend of the bride yells “I DO” and starts asking the bride “Who else loves you like I do?” trying to make her regret her decisions and remind her of his love. The ex boyfriend says “Un momento, Padre, no permita esto, es absurdo, es un error, Ponga pausa a esta boda, ya le explico mi motivo y quién soy yo” which means “One moment, Father, Don’t allow this, it’s absurd, it’s a mistake, Put pause on this wedding, I’ll explain my reason and who I am.” He then starts going on a rant of the past and memories of the bride and the man, trying to remind her that. He even starts going off on the groom calling him a couple names, and yelling for “the groom and the public.” to listen, because he was about to tell the story of their grand love and history. He continues the songs with a whole bunch of reason, excuses, reminders, past memories, everything he could to prevent her from marrying another and to remind herself of the love she had with her ex. The ex-boyfriend starts calling the groom out, asking why he would try to compare to him and how the groom can’t compare at all, nor does he deserve the bride. This is a grieving song, of when you can’t move on with you life, even though your lover already has. The ex-boyfriend ends the song out with also calling the bride out, saying “Why are you crying? Because you know I’m telling the truth, huh?, The only truth that you know, The truth that many at this wedding also remember.”
Dile Al Amor (Tell Love)
A song about telling love and your heart to leave you alone and stop loving. The song is ended by a chorus of the band singing “I don’t need no love, in my life.” Summarizing the whole song in a sentence. In the official music video is show a girl, that looks like she could be Cupid, with bow and arrow and a cute outfit. It seems as if Romeo Santos (lead singer) in the music video, is trying to run away from “Cupid’s arrow and stay away from love. It seems as if he is so out of love and tired of it, so now he no longer wants it. He feels above love at the moment taking care of himself and having self-love, taking vacation and staying away from love. “Pues dile al amor que no toque mi puerta, Que yo no estoy en casa, Que no vuelva mañana, A mi corazón ya le han fallado en ocasiones, Me fui de vacaciones, Lejos de los amores, Y dile a al amor que no es grato en mi vida, Dale mi despedida cuéntale las razones” – “Well tell love not to knock on my door, That I am not home, To not come back tomorrow, He has failed my heart several times already, I went on vacations, Far away from love, Tell love he is not welcome in my life, Give him my farewell, tell him the reasons.” The song can signify multiple things, for example focusing on yourself, learning how to be alone, getting tired of love, only needing yourself, instead of someone else or having to rely on them and much more. Dile Al Amor is a very romantic feeling, tango and salsa-sounding song. It is a very beautiful song and many who don’t even understand the language have loved this song and many other from Aventura.
Un Beso (One Kiss)
Un Beso is a song about the things that can develop or happen (“That with only a kiss, You can fall in love”-“Que sólo por un beso, se puede enamorar”) and the things that someone might do just for a kiss (“I’ll go to heaven and talk to God, I reach the stars of emotion”-“Por un beso de su boca voy al cielo y hablo con Dios, Alcanzo las estrellas de emoción”). The song also appreciates the fact that just a kiss from your lover is so much and makes you happy (“With only a kiss, With her I’m happy”-“Y sólo por un beso, con ella soy feliz”). The song talks about what just one kiss can means for someone. (“A kiss means friendship, “intimacy” and love, In any place in the world”-“Un beso significa, amistad, “Intimicidad” y amor, En cualquier parte del mundo”). The chorus sang by Henry Santos and Romeo Santos, sing all about the idea that a kiss is not just a simple gesture, but an expression of emotion and what just one little kiss can do to you. This song is such a pretty song, that give you a loving feeling, as well as just reminding you to appreciate the smallest things like a kiss.
El Perdedor (The Loser)
Romeo Santos sings about how blind he was, thinking that he was the only one for his lover. He can’t admit that it might have been his fault, but he still feels betrayed even if that’s the case. “Ma falta madurez para admitirle, Que a tu lado fui un chiquillo, Y su hombría superó, Agrégale que hoy, yo me reveló, Envidioso y egoísta, Impulsivo sin control, Por creer que yo era el único”-“I don’t have enough courage to admit to him that I was childish with you, and his masculinity was far better, you can add up that today I reveal myself to be envious, selfish, impulsive with no restraints, for believing I was the only one.“ He speaks on how he ended up being the loser, and having his girl get swept up by someone else so quickly “Lo vi llegar, Y no pensé que importaría, Y te empezaba a conquistar, Convirtiéndote en mí enemiga, Y me robo ese tesoro de duende, Y ahora comprendo el valor, Que no se tapan los defectos con pretextos, Y en cambio, siento rencor”-“I saw him arrive, and I didn’t give it any importance, when he started to conquer you,, turning you into my enemy, and he robbed me of that unique treasure, and now I appreciate its value, that faults can’t be hidden behind excuses, however I feel hatred”. Romeo (lead singer) then singing in a toxic, possessive manner “Ay, ve y dile que lo odio y lo detesto, Por tener lo que fue mío, Y aunque el culpable he sido yo, Que hoy lo considero un enemigo, Lamentando mi pérdida, En la batalla por tu amor”-“Go and tell him that I hate and despise him for having what belonged to me, even if the one to blame is me, that today I consider him my enemy, and I regret my defeat in the battle for your love”. A song made for the possessive, sorrowful, hurtful occasion. When you have lost your lover to another.

Aventura was a big part of my childhood, and I listen to them occasionally on my bachata/salsa playlist. My favorite song from them is probably Ensename a Olvidar and Los Infieles.
