Kindness Week started February 11th. Its purpose was to reflect on acts of kindness in your life and also find the opportunity to exercise kindness. Previously, OHS also participated in this through Positive Change Ambassadors. While not every student attending Osbourn was involved in the program, they still expressed kindness through their own experiences.
One of the many ways kindness can be practiced is through gestures. “The kindest thing I’ve done is help my mom clean the whole house when no one would help her,” said freshman Keila Rich.
Kind acts don’t always have to be done by you. An act undertaken by a stranger has just as much an impact on kindness, as it does on individuals. “The kindest thing someone’s done for me is help me pay for my food after seeing I couldn’t pay for it,” said freshman Abigail Marah. “When Christmas comes, I give toys to kids who can’t afford them,” she added.
Several things can be considered kind, but some students believe kindness goes beyond simple gestures. “The kindest person I know is my mom because she raised me and made sure I live a good life,” said junior Lamarcus Everett.
Kindness is unexpected. It can come from a family member who surprises you with a thoughtful gesture, a person holding the door for you, or a stranger helping out. “I went to Old Town with my friends once and I didn’t have enough money for my food and the waitress let me get my drink for free,” said freshman Kemilly Muniz.
Many people choose to show their appreciation for loved ones by purchasing gifts. These kind acts show how much you value a person. “I buy gifts for the people I care about, during the holidays or on their birthday.” said freshman Marycruz Sanchez Orellana.
“My dad is the kindest person I know because he puts my siblings and me first,” said freshman Heidy Aguiar.
Kindness doesn’t always have to be something you think of before you do it. Authentic kindness comes from your heart rather than your head. “I went to Walmart in December and bought clothes for the Angel Tree. I did it because it felt right,” said freshman Lesly Rodriguez.
“I like to go to sing for charity and raise money for nonprofits,” said junior Preston Short.
It’s important to uplift our friends. Starting the day with positivity can set the tone for a great day ahead. By spreading positivity and kindness, it can create an uplifting environment around us. “I always tell my friends that they look pretty when I first see them in the morning. I say it because it’s true and also to make their day start off good,” said freshman Ameia Parker.
Treating strangers with respect is a good quality for kindness. Showing respect to strangers not only reflects well on ourselves but also sets a good example for others to follow. Every interaction with a stranger is an opportunity to make a positive impact and contribute to kindness. “I always treat the strangers I meet respectfully,” said sophomore Xavier Bennett.
The simple act of sharing food with someone can be a way to show consideration and make the other person feel cared for. Acts of generosity, no matter how small, can create a connection between individuals. “A kind thing someone’s done for me is offer me food they didn’t want,” said junior Stephen Clarke.
Engaging in conversations with strangers can have a positive impact on their day. Taking time to talk to strangers shows a willingness to reach out and be sociable. “I like to make conversation with strangers to make their day better,” said junior Jonah Morales Espinoza.
Kindness is an important trait that can make a significant impact on others. It is the act of showing compassion, regardless of situation. “I like to give money out to others, like if there’s a homeless person on the street, I give them money,” said sophomore Darean Bridges.
Small acts, like Darean’s, go a long way. These stories serve as a reminder that kindness knows no boundaries. As demonstrated by Osbourn students, kindness can be expressed in a myriad of ways. From helping a family member to reaching out to strangers in need, each act of kindness contributes to the world in some way.

Kindness is the best way to become friends with people. The kindest act someone has done for me was paying for my shopping for me. It was very nice and I want to pay back the favor 🙂

Kindness is important and I think people don’t show it enough. I always remember to treat people with kindness because someone might be going through something.

i think showing kindness matters a lot, i say that because you don’t want to get treated the way u treat other people. you can be kind in many way like helping your mom clean up, help your sister/brother with some school, and many more.

an act of kindness that i appreciate is when people are kind enough to show that they care like waiting for u or doing small favors for u. Like I always give snacks to my friends when i see that they’re down
