On February 22, 2024, OHS Guitar had their first concert of this school year. It took place at 7:00 P.M in the OHS auditorium. The concert included Beginning Guitar, Intermediate Guitar, Advanced 1 Guitar, and Advanced 2/3 Guitar. Each group performed three songs each.
The concert started with Mrs. Rubach welcoming the crowd, and thanking them for coming. After she introduced the first group to the stage which was Beginning Guitar.
Beginning Guitar started the concert by playing El Cefiro. El Cefiro is Spanish for ‘The Zephyr’. It is a Mexican traditional song and has a very soft sound to it, and different parts to it as you could hear when they performed.
The second song Beginning Guitar played was Charlotte’s Web. It had a constant melody throughout the song that could easily get stuck in your head.
The third song Beginning Guitar played was Old Man and the Sea. It was a really soft and slow song to listen to. It was gentle and it really made you feel like you were by the sea.
After Beginning Guitar got off the stage, the next group to go on stage was Intermediate Guitar.
Intermediate Guitar started strongly and performed Acadian Suite. Intermediate Guitar’s music was much more complicated than Beginning Guitar’s pieces, and you could already hear that in their first piece.
The second song that Intermediate Guitar played was Low Rider. The original song is by War. This piece was one that I could recognize easily.
The third and final song Intermediate Guitar played was Havana. The song was originally by Camilla Cabello and was very popular a couple of years ago. You could tell the crowd was really excited about this song once they heard the opening notes.
Advanced 1 Guitar was the next group to perform.
They started with Crazy Train. The song was originally by Ozzy Osbourne. This was definitely one of the more complicated pieces, and you could see how much they practiced by looking at how fast they moved their hands on the guitar.
The second song they played was Evil Ways. This song had a chill vibe that fit nicely with the atmosphere. It also had a repetitive melody.
The third song they played was Tower Rising. This piece originally wasn’t going to be in the concert because Mrs. Rubach felt like Advanced 1 wasn’t ready to play it. They eventually mastered the piece and were able to play it.
The final group on stage was Advanced 2/3. Their first piece was called Dance Suite Tango. This piece had kind of a mysterious vibe going on. The song would be really quiet sometimes, and then it would suddenly be loud again, that was certainly something that made the piece more interesting.
The second song they performed was Moonlight Dance and it had a funky fun sound to it.
The third and final song of the concert that they performed was Pirates. It’s the theme song for Pirates of the Caribbean. It was nice that they ended the concert with another familiar piece.
With a lot of complicated pieces from all four groups, Mrs. Rubach feels proud of her students. “I am so proud of everything the students accomplished for this concert. They worked very hard, and it showed,” said Mrs. Rubach.

I didn’t go but I know it would’ve been good. I remember when I played the guitar when I was younger but I grew out of it.
