Here at Osbourn High School, there are a lot of students who have started small businesses. Some enjoy doing it for fun, while others want it to lead towards a career and bigger business in the future. Students talked to us about how they started their small business, and how their progress has come along so far through out the months or even years, and why other students should start their own small businesses, and how to begin that process.
Daniella Rivera is a junior here at Osbourn; she told us about how she felt when she first started doing lashes on other people and what she does when getting new clients. “When I was starting I did get overwhelmed because it could be someone random who is my customer. But throughout time,I learned more customer service skills, and my goal was to make them feel comfortable and happy with my work. I make sure to let them know my policies and do a required deposit to secure their appointment. This is to make sure that they will show up to their appointment. I make sure they know what it is they would like to get or I give them advice and recommend what style of lashes would suit them since it’s all different eye shapes and lashes,” explained Daniella Rivera. If you are interested in seeing her work, you can find her on Instagram- “lashes.bydani_”
Kalia Morales is also one of our juniors, and she told us a little bit about how she started her nail business and how her progress is going at the moment. “It was very slow, but I had another job, so it didn’t really bother me, When I didn’t have many clients, I would do sets for free to try and get more people. I just try to have as many options for my clients as I can and I like to have nice things for them. I just try thinking about what my clients might like. I also offer both manicures and pedicures now which I didn’t do before,” said Kalia Morales. You can find her on Instagram “Nailsbyk.69” to see her great work!
We have a sophomore here at Osbourn, Giselle Gonzalez, who said she sees herself continuing her ‘Sweets and Treats’ small business for many years. “I really enjoy making sweets, and bouquets with my mom,” she stated. If you are interested in placing an order for some treats or even bouquets as well, go check out her Instagram “floristberries.”
Isai is a senior. He told us about how he started, how it’s going, and a little bit more about his journey that he has going on. “So I had always liked to cook and I was working at this retail job that I just did not like at all. The whole idea of working for someone didn’t suit me, especially with that being my first job and it was a pretty bad first one. I was already selling sandwiches since my sophomore and junior years, but not to everyone. In a week, I sold like 4 sandwiches just to my friends. Then junior year, I told myself why not expand it? And I am where I am now because I challenged myself. For sure one of my biggest challenges was the work and consistency I had to put in. I did constant grocery trips and had to wake up at 4 AM. I needed to stay consistent with my product, but another challenge was trying to figure out how to sell the food and where to sell it. But over time, I built up my clients, and that’s really all you need to start a business. A good clientele will take you a long way. A good business owner needs to be responsible and own up to when they are in the wrong and messed up. Accountability and responsibility when owning a business will take you a long way,” said Isai Parada. To see when he has food available, and to try his amazing cooking, you can find him on Instagram “sid.cookz.”
You should definitely go and check out all of their Instagram pages, and see some of the wonderful work done by our local entrepreneurs!

I think it is cool how so many people at our school are finding ways to start their own business and make money at such a young age.

This article shows that you can do anything even if you’re young. I get lazy and procrastinate so I wouldn’t be able to do this.

I wish I was making money like this too, but I have no clue what kind of business I could make. I give these guys big props for doing something like that. It must be hard, especially at our ages.

This is a very nice article to see how teens make businesses. Ive gotten my lashes done by Dani and they were so nice! They lasted a long time and made it very easy to get ready in the morning. I’ve also gotten food from sid. His food is very good, my favorite is the chicken and waffles. I like the effort he puts into making his food. Waking up at 4am to cook is definitley challenging but it all makes up for it in the end.
