The Spanish 1 / B1 students in Dr. LePelch’s class visited Haydon Elementary School on October 25th to showcase their projects on El Alfabeto (The Alphabet) in Spanish. They joined Mr. Guevara’s kindergarten class. Our Osbourn students were World Languages Ambassadors and taught the little students how to pronounce and write each letter in Spanish.
Osbourn students first wrote the alphabet and some words in Spanish then added images and words that corresponded to each letter.
They acted as tutors and mentors and taught El Alfabeto and the spelling of words in Spanish to the younger students.
At Haydon, the kindergarten students worked in seven groups and rotated to learn from different Osbourn students. The older students acted as Spanish teachers and engaged the kindergarteners in learning and “playing “ with letters.
Both the Haydon and Osbourn students had fun and used Spanish in their conversations. In the end, everybody clapped and was very proud of this visit.
“Haydon having a Spanish class is a great experience because it makes speaking both Spanish and English a natural habit for the kids, and they can use this skill in the future,” explained Dr. Vilma LePelch, who coordinated this project.
“I think teaching the Haydon students was really fun because they are so fun to talk to,” said Genesis Revolorio.
