The boys varsity and JV football teams are both fun and competitive, making people want to go to games and be excited about the Friday night lights. The team is very skilled, both varsity and JV, with many talented players who have been playing since they were very young and have the determination to win and get better. Not only do these players have to be great on the field, they must also be great off the field as well, by keeping up with schoolwork and maintaining good grades. The team practices every day during the week to always be prepared and sharp, and sometimes they even practice on the weekends.
Playing high school football can be very challenging, but worth it since players grow with the team and some get better at the sport. “I honestly think that it is going to be a fun and challenging season since I have not played since peewee leagues, but the main goal is to win and get better,” said JV safety Nicky Wessel.
Playing sports at the high school level can be hard and tedious, but that comes with the responsibility of being determined and ready to put in the work. If you want to be able to make something out of the four years you play here, you have to be ready to put everything on the line and be hungry for that next win. “One thing I think will be easier is winning now that I am playing high school football. Everyone that is on the team wants to win and genuinely sees a future playing football, and that means everyone is locked in and focused,” said JV safety/receiver Zaire Joseph.
With the team being heavily reliant on underclassmen and not that many seniors, they all need to be united as a whole. Meaning that they are understanding plays, uplifting each other, not bringing each other down, and working themselves to their best ability. “I feel like the new freshman can be very useful if they are able to understand that we all need to work together on the field no matter what,” said varsity lineman Wayne Henderson.
This season, the team welcomed Coach Mike Johnson to Osbourn High School as the new head coach, who has a love for football and coaching. “I am excited I enjoy being here I grew up here and went to school here, and it truly is an honor to be able to come back and help any way that I can with coaching,” said Coach Mike Johnson.
Athletes can’t do what they do alone; they need motivation, support, and determination. They all need a main goal that drives them to do what they do without giving up on their dreams. “Something that motivates me is being able to play and get better, and just the thought of being able to play D1 college football and accomplishing my dreams,” said varsity lineman Jazarion Baker.
As we are reaching halfway through the season, there are certain things that the players need to carry with them for future seasons, even on outside teams. knowing that it does not come easy to win and that you must put in the work to get results and try your best no matter what. “I want to get our kids to a point where they can compete at the varsity level. We have a lot of young kids, but not a lot of senior leadership. We’re working to get them developed and coached up so we can compete for four quarters and put ourselves in a position to win,” said Coach Mike Johnson.
With the season still going, the Osbourn football team is determined, hungry to win, and ready to put everything on the line for it. The team is ready to thrive this season, with many talented athletes ready to come together, focus, and lock in.
