OHS’ 2025 Coraline-themed homecoming occurred Saturday, October 25, 2025, and one of the most important parts of homecoming is finding the perfect dress. Whether you prioritize comfort, style, or cost, choosing the right dress is important. The journey starts by heading to the mall, or maybe just to your closet. Steffany Torres, a sophomore, said, “I got my dress from Macy’s. I feel like they have really cute dresses, and some of them are really affordable.” Freshman Sophia Metcalfe also got her dress at Macy’s. “I got it about a month ago, for OP’s hoco.” Lots of people got their dresses at Macy’s, but some didn’t even go to the store. “I got it from my mom’s friend’s daughter. It was a hand-me-down,” says Joanne Pendleton, a freshman here at Osbourn.
The journey doesn’t end there. Metcalfe said, “I tried on about 8 dresses, and saved this one for last.” “I looked at a few, but I was mostly looking at blues and yellows. I decided on that length for mobility,” said sophomore Kimora Williams. Torres went through a lot of trouble to find her perfect dress. She said, “Finding my dress was not an easy journey. I went to 5 different stores and got three different dresses.”
Homecoming is a big deal. It’s one of the first major social events. Each girl has different qualifications for her dream dress. Some want to be comfortable and be able to dance, but others just want to look cute. “I chose it because it was something that I would normally never choose, but when I tried it on, it fit good. It was something different and I liked it,” said Metcalfe. Pendleton said, “It was a good dress, and it was in my closet. It was pretty and convenient.” However, Torres had an epiphany. “I saw it at the store and I instantly fell in love with it. It’s like it was meant for me.”
In the end, you end up wearing something that suits your style. Alexis Brula, a sophomore, said, “The color [of the dress] is electric blue. It has sequins on it, and it comes above my knee.” Metcalfe said, “It’s a square-neck, and it kind of looks like a wedding dress. There’s this weird triangle slit in the side.” “It’s a dark green dress with lace at the back, and it’s a little above my knee,” said Pendleton.
After buying your dress, you need accessories. Williams said, “I bought yellow heels and a yellow cover-up and a necklace [from Coraline].” “I already had shoes and accessories that went with the dress,” said Metcalfe.
The theme for the 2025 homecoming is Coraline, and it’s a hard theme to follow. It includes lots of dark colors and very specific outfits, so most aren’t really following the theme. Torres said, “I personally think that you should wear what makes you feel confident, but when people follow the theme, it looks really cute.” Yet, Williams, part of this year’s sophomore court, plans to rock the Coraline theme.
