This spring, Osbourn High School’s (OHS) track team has exploded with energy and talent, bringing in an impressive 164 athletes. It’s the biggest the team has been in years, and everyone is making an impact in their own way. Whether it’s sprinting, distance running, or field events, OHS athletes are stepping up.
“Everybody is doing something in their own way to help the team and themselves, too,” said Tristan Peterson, a senior on the team. His words reflect the team spirit that’s carrying the Eagles through the season. Everyone is finding their own path to success, and it’s making the team stronger overall.
The players are excited about the large turnout. Junior Erick Rivera Lovos shared, “It’s a great thing. I’m happy that our team is growing. Everybody should try at least one sport, and it makes me happy that so many people chose track.” Erick, who runs the 800-meter event (two full laps around the track), also added, “I run the 800, that’s 2 laps. It’s my favorite and a fun event but it hurts a lot. It takes a very special person to enjoy the 800, and I’m happy to say that I am one of those very special people.”
For some, this season marks a brand new beginning and even a farewell all at once. “This is my first and last year doing track,” said Brittany Lopez, a junior. “I only did it because I pinky promised a friend I would try out. I like to swim, and they share the fact that they both have different events.” Brittany’s story shows how sometimes a small promise can lead to a big new experience, even if it’s just for one season.
Gabriella Hogan, a sophomore, has some past experience when it comes to track and field. “I did track in around 3rd and 4th grade,” she said. “I like the practices, and the coaches are really nice. I have friends on the team.” For Gabriella, being part of the team isn’t just about competing. “This helps me condition for cheer and swim,” she added. The track is helping her prepare for all the different activities she is involved in at OHS.
Senior Lamarcus Everett had a standout performance early on. “I ran the 100m and ofc I was the first in my heat,” he said proudly. “I feel like I put a lot of work into it. It keeps me away from drama, keeps me focused, and keeps me in shape.” Lamarcus shows how Track and Field can be about more than just winning races — it’s also about personal growth and finding a positive outlet.
With a team this large, full of fresh faces and experienced runners alike, the Eagles are looking at a season filled with promise. Every runner has their own reasons for joining, but they all share one thing — a commitment to pushing themselves and supporting each other. The track team is more than just a sport at OHS; it’s becoming a family.
As the season progresses, Osbourn’s track team is proving that with hard work, a little bit of pain, and a lot of heart, anything is possible. With the energy they’re bringing this spring, the sky really is the limit.

I find it cool that sports and other activities can bring people out and bring up their confidence and whatnot. This article was nicely made and is also interesting.

It is really interesting to see how friends can push some people out of their comfort zones and make them try new things. Track seems like a great activity where team members can have fun and stay in shape! And you are correct. Hard work, a little bit of pain, and a lot of heart makes anything possible. I am glad that they are having a blast doing this!

It’s nice to see so many people getting into something like Track. It might get me into it one day.
