Track is really fun if you enjoy running a lot. Tryouts were on February 24th through the 26th. The girls and boys were working really hard during tryouts and wanted to see if they were going to end up joining, but this year is going to be a fresh start with returning track runners and new track runners.
Everyone has different reasons for why they joined track. Some people really enjoy running, so they decided to join, others want to join because they want to have better stamina and also other people join to build their body at OHS students joined track for different reasons.
“I joined track because I wanted to have better stamina,” said junior Jamie Rodriguez.
“ I wanted to join track because I wanted to try something new and build my body,” said freshman Genesis Guadalupe Martinez.
“I joined track because I’ve been on the team since freshman year, and I love being with the team,” said junior Rose McCusker.
“What made me do track is my mom and siblings, and I’ve been doing it since 7th grade,” said freshman Shannon McCusker.
Everyone loves track for different reasons; some people like track because of the coaches, the team, and to build their bodies. In track, students love their coaches because the coaches love to help every student to be better at track and want them to try their best to finish the race. Even if the students are tired, the coaches will always encourage them to finish the race. Some people like track to keep themselves distracted from home, and some students like to run because they feel like they’re running their problems away.
“Something I like about track is it keeps me distracted from being home,” said freshman Genesis Guadalupe Martinez.
“I love everything about track; it feels like I’m running my problems away,” said junior Jacquiline Biddier.
“One thing I like about track is that it keeps me in shape and gives me something to do after school,” said junior Rose McCusker.
Every year, new students join track because they want to try something new for the school year and some students love to run, so they pick track. Track is not easy and not hard, but at some times it gets difficult and stressful, and the same goes with the coaches. But joining track is really fun also because you can make new friends.
“Don’t push yourself too hard, and don’t think negatively when you first join cause it’s all about mindset. Have little goals and try to accomplish them,” said junior Jacquiline Biddier.
“What I would tell beginners is don’t give up because you don’t think you’re good at running. It doesn’t matter as long as you put in the work,” said freshman Shannon McCusker.
“Something I want to tell beginners is don’t be afraid to try something new, and you’ll really enjoy track,” said freshman Genesis Guadalupe Martinez.
Being a distance runner in track can be both challenging and fun if you really enjoy running a lot. And being a distance runner is fun because you can run to different places if you really enjoy running for a long time period and it also means you need to commit to the hard work especially the workouts and the warm ups and the feeling of crossing the finishing line after you pushed through all your hard work is really impressive.
“Being a distance runner is hard, especially the workouts. It takes stamina and hard work,” said freshman Shannon McCusker.
“I like mid distances like the 400 and 800,” said freshman Shannon M.
“Being a distance runner is fun because you get to run to different places and have a really fun team,” said junior Rose McCusker
“ I can pace the mile and 800 really well and can see myself improving in the future,” said junior Rose McCusker
Being a sprinter is completely different from being a distance runner. Because sprinter have to run as fast as they can in a short distance and you really have to focus on what you want to do and try your best and also to try to push yourself to the finish line even if your already tired but at the end of the races you will feel amazing because you finished the race.
“Being a sprinter is really fun because it’s very competitive,” said freshman Genesis Guadalupe Martinez.
“ I don’t like running for a long period of time, and my stamina is not good,” said freshman Genesis Guadalupe Martinez.
“Being a sprinter is fun because I’m running very fast in a short distance, and I like it because I don’t know how to do distance,” said junior Jacquiline Biddier.
“Being a sprinter is very interesting because you focus on having a better form,” said junior Jamie Rodriguez.
Everyone who plans on doing track does it every year because they want to improve each year they do track, and people want to improve how fast they can go as well.
“ I plan on doing track during my four years of high school,” said freshman Genesis Guadalupe Martinez.
“I really don’t plan on stopping. I want to go to the Olympics,” said junior Jacquiline Biddier.
“I plan on doing track through my senior year and hopefully in college,” said junior Rose McCusker.
“I plan on doing track all 4 years of high school,” said freshman Shannon McCusker.
“I plan on doing track for my junior and senior year,” said junior Jamie Rodriguez.
Track is an amazing sport; you may want to try it because you will make new friends and work with amazing teams and coaches.
