Baseball is right around the corner and players are getting ready for their upcoming season. Players are trying to give it their all this season as last season was not their worst or best. Players are trying to improve every day and make sure they go up in the depth chart and on their skills.
I asked players how they want to improve this season. “I plan to really work on my swinging action this season and hit some home runs,” said Jaxson Burke. Players have to do well in school also; they have to be a “student-athlete” which means they have to show good work on and off the field. “I want to get a starting position and just do my best on the field and off the field,” said Ryan Dotson.
Players not only need to focus on themselves but their teammates and team players have to work together to win games but they also need to improve. “Honestly we just need to work on ourselves as players and come together and work as a team on gameday,” said Michael Gross. They team has to be in sync and dominate on the field so they can’t just care or rely on personal stats. “Playing together, working together, and just being one unit so we can win games is important,” said Raffa Diaz. “Working together and executing in games instead of falling short is our goal,” said Burke.
Players also can’t wait to see who their upcoming opponents are for this season and try to come back harder than last year and get their revenge on the teams they lost to last season. “Freedom South Riding is one team I would love to get back at,” said Gross. Some players feel neutral about going against other teams. “Any school is my favorite school to go against,” said Dotson. And others rather play in a tournament than regular season games. “I prefer tournament matches and the teams we go against then,” said Lenel Evans.
Players set a goal for themselves and see what they want to achieve in the future with baseball. “My goal is mostly to get some college offers,” said Evans. “To get my stats this season up for college coaches to see and get some offers to roll in,” said Burke. Some players want a future with baseball and hopefully have a huge dream to either go pro or make it to a high level. Some other players play the sport just to play it or just improve as a player/student. “I want to mostly show the coaches what I got and have a lot more playing time this year,” said Gross.
“I want to have more playing time and move my way up the depth chart,” said Diaz.
Players are excited and prepared to play baseball this season. Good luck to the OHS baseball team this season. GO EAGLES!
