For some time, I was feeling like I was not fitting in right as I was told things like “You’ll find someone just wait,” or “Asexual is not a thing- you are just confused.” I was feeling pretty upset, so to feel better, I retreated into the bright colorful world of music. There was a large variety of artists who were also a part of the queer community, like myself. Listening to the diverse styles and songs not only helped me overcome my insecurities, but also made me feel seen.
Now without further ado, here are my top 5 favorite picks of queer artists.
Now let’s get on with the list!
- Lady Gaga
She was one of my favorite singers from my childhood and still is today. I love how many of her songs give off feelings of female empowerment and confidence. I also like how she showcases her performances with iconic fashions and music videos. Whenever I’m bored I put on her music and dance in my bedroom. My top favorite songs from her are Poker Face, Judas, and Telephone.
2. Kim Petras
I discovered her while I was listening to a playlist of random pop songs on Spotify. The song from her was Demons and I really enjoyed so I checked out her other songs out of curiosity. Absolutely adore all the dark and creepy vibes from her music and I added her to my “Goth vibes” playlist. Nowadays, when it’s October I listen to her music to help me get into the Halloween spirit. Songs by her that I enjoy the most are Demons, Wrong Turn, and There Will Be Blood.
3. Adam Lambert
In my free time I play his songs because they are extremely fun to dance to. Whenever I feel like there is negative tension at home I just put on his music, start dancing and suddenly I just forget about all the negativity. I was pretty surprised when I found out he was touring with Queen, one of my favorite rock bands. Top songs I enjoy from him are If I Had You, For Your Entertainment, and his cover of Holding Out For A Hero.
4. Troye Sivan
Whenever I’m feeling sad or down I sometimes listen to him to cheer up and feel better. His songs are very chill and have very positive lyrics and meanings are usually about emotions and well-being. My favorite songs would definitely be Angel Baby, Better Place, and Happy Little Pill.
5. Sam Smith
What I like most about him is how many songs are very deep and meaningful to relax too, while I am aware he has now changed up his style to something different, I actually enjoyed the new music from his recent rebrand. Some of his songs have actually helped inspire me in the creation of some characters I’m writing for a story. The songs I like best are Stay With Me, I’m Not The Only One, and Unholy.

Lady Gaga is one of my FAVORITE artists! Her music is just so enthusiastic along with her fashion like you said and I love how she doesn’t restrict herself to the thoughts of others.

I like Lady Gaga because of her unique style, especially when it comes to her fashion. I feel like she was one of the first artists where people were like ‘What am I looking at?’ and that’s a good thing.

I’m happy that the music industry has such a diverse culture because it can make anybody feel welcomed in their own way. Whether it be because of the stories their songs tell or because of the artist themselves. This article really reinforces that.

It’s great to see that you enjoy these artists! I may not have a favorite artist because I usually don’t listen to music, but I am glad these artists make you happy! It is okay if you don’t feel like you fit in, even I don’t feel like it either. I am glad that music has allowed you to overcome your insecurities. Though one of my personal favorites from this list is probably Lady Gaga because I listened to her when I was just a child.
